Kamorta class corvettes for VPN ?

At a very reasonable price of $400 million per ship, perhaps if Vietnam orders 2 ships , and tries this ship class. If it meets or exceeds expectations, procuring an additional 4-6 would definitely strengthen the VPN's capabilities.

It is already in public only less published. You may have thought many things but not all will be ordered by VN.

Well, I can tell you that from our end here we had zero info about this type of ship, we only knew about 4 offshore patrol vessels that are supposed to be cheap and the rumors about the Kamorta, that's all.

Whatever more info you can trow at us or links will be very much appreciated. Thank you man.

It is not actually a ballistic missile but a quasi ballistic one with depressed trajectory. Is much faster than Brahmos and slower than typical ballistic missile. It has active seeker also.

That sounds mighty difficult to intercept to me.

I would say that the only chinese ship with a possible chance to intercept it (maybe) would be the type 52D destroyer that has the naval version of the S-300 and they only have 1 of those at the moment.

The rumor was for 6 ships.

Thanks. Do you happen to know if the Vietnamese Government is expecting to increase its defense expenditure to meet the cost of its military modernization program? What is the defense expenditure of Vietnam, btw?

Any idea what the size, displacement is?

Is this a new design for the Indian Navy or just for export?
Its displacement should be around 3500 minimum and 4500 maximum in full load ton depending on what kind of hardware VN orders under Indian credit system. This is proven design, only enlarged with stealth tech.

7.8 billion last year, it almost double in the last 3 years. I don't know if the trend will continue.

I wonder if the IN has sent this ship's class into hostile waters in say the Somali Coast to 'test out' its offensive capabilities.

Thanks for the information, btw, Banderanegro.

I think they've only been commissioned a few months ago. So they haven't been battle tested yet.

But too bad a Korean shipyard will probably win the Filipino tender.

The Kamorta is just asw with good air defense (very good one), it does not have anti ship missiles, but if you put them there, then definitely the Kamorta.

The Kamorta can be configured as a multi-role frigate. Imo, if both the Philippines and VN choose wisely, they could get a AESA equipped Kamorta + Brahmos + Barak-8 for under $500million, basically a mini-aegis. I dont think anything in the SCS can match this power except for the 052D.

Mate doing the same since last eight years in north west arabian sea. All Sukanya class boats are on round the clock anti piracy missions one by one. Even few times in last year IN had apprehended pirates using this boat only. Can be upgraded to light frigate category(indian version) in week time.

The Koreans are putting money under the table, its very clear.

I agree about such a Kamorta ship, VN needs to not get cheap with it. Underpowered vessels because they want to save money end up sinking real easy.

What's more effective the Sigma Class or the Kamorta Class ? Your view ?
Every ship has some objective and if it fulfills it then it is effective. Comparing two different purpose vessels is not good especially if origin countries have different motives behind such boat development.

Can you confirm that VN has already decided to go with this hybrid design or is it just a possibility?

3500 - 4500 sounds great, a heavy frigate.

The Philippines will sway for Korean designs? And all because of that 'donation' of the Pohang Class? I hope that didn't swoon their favor so easily. I honestly believe the Philippines could do more with the Maestrale Class Frigate from Italy. It meets their needs for the immediate term. With proven capabilities.

Not just that. They had also donated one Pohang Class Corvette to the Philippines. I hope that this 'donation' didn't contribute to such favorable bias for the Korean side. As you know, the North Koreans were able to sink a Pohang Class with relative impunity the last tragedy broke out. All hands died when the ship sank.

Too bad the Philippines cannot afford JMSDF's own Shirane Class Destroyers, which have a dedicated ASW capability. We have , unofficially, silenced many NorKor subs that had ventured into Japanese territory in the past with these ships.
