Since JF-17 is the workhorse for PAF, cost, maintenance and how fast to get back to sky after active duty are some of the major concern. I guess what PAF considers for future blocks are ASEA rada to support more powerful BVRM, Reduced RCS, more powerful engine supporting bigger payload. With such improvement and other force multiflier, JF-17 could take on any IAF inventory, now and future, within Pakistan sky. For aggressive adventure, PAF always has the F16s and in near future, the FC-20.

XiaoLong/JF17 localization engine first flew success:

2010 18th April afternoon, at an airport take-off line,a plan assembly some new type engine developed by liYang corporation,14:57 with a deafening roar, the plane with vigorous heroic fly to the sky, 18 minutes after the flight, landing, engine working normally, working well. Thus, a new engine equipped with plane first flew success, it marks a new engine and a plane power localization work on significant breakthrough!

Can anyone tell me the time taken for this engine to reach military thrust? (to fire the after-burners0. Because WS 10 and WS 10A were facing problems with it. If this is sorted out then that engine will also be sorted out.

Almost instantly. The rd33 is a very simple and rugged engine like the Atars. So you cannot achieve superb results but spinning is never been a problem. The chinese started probably with better performance, hence slower spinup.

I know RD 33 and its derivatives. Am talking about WS 13. Because there was a report that WS 10 took 8 seconds.

You're probably right, the WS-10 had problems such as these but the WS-10 variant is (half a decade)old news now. Even the improved WS-10A now has subsequent derivatives under development for specific tasks like short-takeoff on the navalized J-10.

The production WS-10A model and it's derivatives that get installed on J-10 do not appear to have any such problems. They have very lopsided win-loose tallies in all the exercises the Chinese do between their AL-31 engine SU-30s and their WS-10 engine J-10s. The J-10 does seem like an almost over-powered aircraft, the WS-10 provides more power than the Russian model, but the aircraft is significantly lighter in weight, and there are videos and images of the J-10 lifting off and going vertical immediately so the engine issue is definitely not a problem.

apparantly the chinese have 'cloned' the RD-33 engine according to Kanwa news.
