If it is there for the JF-17 development, then they must already be testing. I cannot expect them to need the tanker there for the design and assembly of the IRF system. Also, IRF is not new to the Chinese – I don’t see it being a major challenge. Just my opinion.
I don't want to read too much into it, but the guy was pointing towards the Block-2 development.
I understand you are saying you would not vouch for the info. I am however saying if the tanker is in Chengdu for Block II development, it is for IFR testing. The tanker is not there for the engineers to look at and measure its couplings. My thinking is IFR for the Thunder has been on the cards for years – we even got a photo of the probe 2-3 yrs ago – so the news that they could be testing should not sound like fiction. I say, it should be expected. Just like the SD-10, we new it was going to be part of the JF-17, seeing the photos was welcome, but it was EXPECTED!
Good point had not thought of that possibility. It could be there to pick more JF-17 sub-assemblies.Having said that, it's also worth remembering that these tankers can also be converted for heavy transport duties as well.
Indeed it's the full works and the tanker is there to carry out field testing/operations. I just didn't want to jump the gun on the Block-2 angle.
