China to accelerate air force modenisation

China is likely to accelerate the modernisation of its fighter fleet over the next decade, and is looking to induct additional indigenous aircraft and order new types from Russia.

Beijing's Chengdu J-10 fighter was displayed publicly for the first time earlier this month at Airshow China 2008 in Zhuhai, where Chinese officials indicated that it would also develop new versions of the type. A B-model aircraft has already been proposed, with this to have a thrust-vectoring engine and an active electronically scanned array radar.

"The J-10 has been identified as the backbone of the Chinese air force. They will continue to increase the production rate and improve on the earlier version," says one observer. China has never revealed how many J-10s have entered service since 2006, but industry sources speculate that more than 100 have been produced from an eventual requirement for around 300.

A naval version of the J-10 is also on the cards, with sources saying that China hopes to get its aircraft carrier programme up and running in the next decade. But with an indigenous naval fighter expected to take too long to develop, China is reportedly negotiating with Russia's Rosoboronexport arms agency for an interim batch of 48 Sukhoi Su-33 fighters.

China has also shown interest in the Su-35, but could first place a significant order for Chengdu's FC-1/JF-17 fighter, which was jointly developed with Pakistan. Concurrently, Beijing is pursing several highly secretive studies to develop a stealthy fifth-generation fighter, and is also reportedly developing a stealth bomber, various unmanned air vehicles and indigenous powerplants.

Meanwhile, the air force's first cadre of eight pilots to graduate from the Chinese Flight Test Establishment finished their two-year course in mid-November, with each having received instruction on seven aircraft types and logged almost 1,000 sorties.

Defiantly not for the F-16, looks like a good news for JF-17.
PAF should have dedicated EW JF-17s from block 2 with western avionics radar and armaments. the alq-200k is used on korean KF-16 block 52 which weights about 240kg so it can easily be fitted under wing hardpoints. just imagine 4 of these on JF-17s they would be night mare for IAF and SAMs.

JDW
Description
The pod-mounted LIG NEX1 (formerly LG Innotek's Systems Division and then NEX1 Future) ALQ-200K E- through J-band radar jammer is designed for tactical aircraft applications (including the KF-16 and RF-4C types) and is targeted against anti-aircraft artillery, surface-to-air missile systems and airborne intercept emitters. It incorporates a transmitter chain, separate 'high-sensitivity' and channelised receivers, a system control unit, a 'jamming resource' package and a cockpit control interface unit. Of these, the ALQ-200K's transmitter chain includes fore and aft beam forming networks and multibeam, phased-array antenna assemblies and is described as offering a 'high' effective radiated power value. The equipment's system controller is reported as offering real-time processing, 'optimised' signal deinterleaving, jamming resource management, automatic built-in test, multi-channel tracking and 'multi-mission' scenario options. The jammer's receiver sub-system makes use of multi-baseline phase comparison direction-finding, while its 'jamming resource' package includes a digital radio frequency memory, a digitally-tuned oscillator, a continuous wave repeater and offers a range of noise, deception and 'complex' jamming modes. ALQ-200K is supported by a maintenance threat simulator and maintenance control analysis, automatic test unit and flight readiness programming stands. Other system features include a 'high-density' signal processing capability and the use of multiple central processing units and 'high-speed' signal processing to optimise jammer management.

I do think China shall be ordering the JF-17 for the simple reason that the more aircraft ordered the lower the unit cost and the attractive the aircraft becomes for the third world airforces which are supposed to be the prime customers.

Further it is better in performance than F-7 and A-5 in service with the Chinese and they are not going to be inducting an inferior system.

Its Sqn Ldr Ehsan. He has been associated with the JF-17 program for a while now.

You are right, he is Wing Commander Ehsan Ul Haq…He is an experienced Mirage pilot and was selected for JF-17 programme along with Sqn Ldr Rashid Habib ( F-16 ), Wg Cdr Imran Qadir ( F-16) and Sqn Ldr Rana Hakim ( F-7 P/PG).

All 4 pilots have been actively involved on Flight, Avionics and Weapon testing of Thunder. As all 4 are also Qualified Flying Instructors (QFIs), therefore they have also been responsible for converting new PAF pilots onto JF-17...

Rana and Imran are also graduates of UKs famous ETPS: Empire Test Pilots' School. Few years back, both these pilots were also involved in flying and assessing the SAAB Gripen and Mirage 2000-5 as well…

Having worked with and known all these 4 guys for years, I am very confident that our JF-17 programme is in very good and experienced hands …These guys bring with them a vast background experience of fighter flying / instructional flying / test flying and the technical know how of the business….Just a little bit of more wait, but rest assured that the end product ( JF-17) will make us all proud of the effort these guys ( and the rest of the whole team) are putting into this project….:enjoy:

Absolutely Great News!

This pic shows JF-17 but it would be nice to see specs rather than pic. Some where provided but no one bother to get them (picture of the specification in front of the pane ) may be because nothing new was there.

any thoughts??

Maybe it something that is totally logic but every time I enter this forum I just swiflty move through posts of the most important posters... And getting real insight info on this level is unbelievable. With this era of internet and so many nice people that want to share info or pics it is difficult to shut down the computer... On the other hand it is a way to meet friends we could never have or share views with persons on the other side... So now and then handy to release some pressure. There are a couple of posters that need to be decorated just because they are here... The think tank members (I am surely the least important person) are something that make me come back every day... But I am proud to add that there are a lot more very impressive posters. Good job.
