JF-17 Block-3 -- Updates, News & Discussion

The information on the Azerbaijan deal has some elements that are strange.
The claim is that they are already delivered, but why show PAF aircraft at ADEX in Baku? I think they have yet to be built...

Also, is this 'confirmation' from PAF is available in public domain somewhere? In a government channel? The only thing I can find (as you can read on PAC's thread) that the Pakistani JF-17 Block-III was presented to the president of Azerbaijan. No word on any deal there.

Strangely the Azerbaijani claim that these already in service in Azerbaijan ("The jets have already been integrated into the arsenal of Azerbaijan's Air Force.") Surely someone would have seen them flying around at Kamra before that?

So this still is a historic deal, but I want to see them flying before I believe it, or am I simply to skeptical? 8-)

Bangladeshi Professor Dr. Shahiduzzaman has stirred controversy by advocating for Bangladesh to procure three squadrons of JF-17 fighter jetsfrom Pakistan. In a recent viral video, he emphasized the need for Bangladesh to enhance its military capabilities in light of perceived threats from India. Dr. Shahiduzzaman compared the JF-17, a Chinese-Pakistani co-produced aircraft, to the American F-35, claiming that it offers similar advanced capabilities at a significantly lower cost.

Advocacy for JF-17 Procurement

Dr. Shahiduzzaman's remarks come amidst growing tensions in South Asia, particularly between Bangladesh and India. He suggested that acquiring the JF-17 jets would bolster Bangladesh's defense posture and provide a counterbalance to India's military strength. The professor's call for military modernization reflects a shift in rhetoric, as he has also previously proposed that Bangladesh consider signing a nuclear treaty with Pakistan.

Support for Separatist Movements

In addition to advocating for the JF-17 acquisition, Dr. Shahiduzzaman controversially urged the Bangladeshi government to support separatist movements in India's northeastern states, such as Assam and Manipur. He argued that aiding these groups could serve as a strategic move against India, which he perceives as a threat to Bangladesh's sovereignty.

Context of Bangladesh-India Relations

Historically, Bangladesh has maintained a non-confrontational stance towards India, focusing on cooperation despite occasional tensions over border security and water-sharing issues. However, Dr. Shahiduzzaman's statements reflect a growing sentiment among certain factions within Bangladesh that advocate for a more assertive foreign policy, particularly in relation to India. The professor's comments have sparked debate within Bangladesh about the implications of such military acquisitions and support for insurgent groups. Critics warn that these actions could destabilize regional relations and provoke retaliation from India.

Conclusion

Dr. Shahiduzzaman's advocacy for procuring JF-17 fighter jets from Pakistan and supporting separatist movements in India highlights the complexities of South Asian geopolitics. As Bangladesh navigates its defense strategy amid rising tensions with India, the implications of such proposals will require careful consideration by policymakers to maintain stability in the region while addressing national security concerns.

Professor Shahid uz zaman from Dhaka University has suggested that Bangladesh should consider purchasing three squadrons of the JF-17 Thunder Block-III fighter jets from Pakistan as a strategic move to deter potential military aggression from India. This recommendation comes in light of increasing regional tensions and the need for Bangladesh to bolster its defense capabilities.

Key Points:
  1. JF-17 Thunder Block-III Features: The JF-17 Thunder Block-III is a multi-role fighter aircraft developed through a collaboration between Pakistan and China. It boasts advanced features such as:
    • Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Radar: This radar enhances target detection and tracking capabilities, making the aircraft more effective in combat scenarios.
    • Improved Maneuverability and Combat Range: The Block-III variant offers superior maneuverability, extended operational range, and enhanced combat capabilities compared to earlier versions
    • Advanced Avionics: The aircraft is equipped with state-of-the-art avionics systems, including a digital fly-by-wire control system, which improves flight performance and pilot control
  2. Strategic Necessity: With rising tensions between India and Bangladesh, particularly regarding border issues and regional security dynamics, acquiring modern fighter jets like the JF-17 could serve as a deterrent against potential aggression from India. Professor Shahid uz zaman emphasizes that strengthening air defense is crucial for national security.
  3. Regional Military Balance: The suggestion aligns with broader trends in South Asia, where countries are increasingly investing in modernizing their military capabilities in response to perceived threats. The acquisition of JF-17s would enhance Bangladesh's air force capabilities significantly.
  4. Political Context: The call for increased military procurement also reflects the changing political landscape in the region, where defense spending is often influenced by domestic politics and external threats. As Bangladesh navigates its relationships with neighboring countries, bolstering its military might could be seen as a necessary step.
  5. Economic Considerations: While the JF-17 is considered a cost-effective option compared to other fighter jets on the market, the financial implications of such a purchase would need to be carefully evaluated against Bangladesh's broader economic priorities.
Conclusion:
Professor Shahid uz zaman's recommendation for Bangladesh to acquire three squadrons of JF-17 Thunder Block-III fighter jets underscores the importance of enhancing national defense capabilities amid regional tensions. As Bangladesh contemplates its military strategy, the integration of advanced aircraft like the JF-17 could play a pivotal role in ensuring its security and sovereignty in an increasingly complex geopolitical environment.
