JF-17 Block-3 -- Updates, News & Discussion

So no Single MFD?

We wont know for a while. The F16V doesnot have a single MFD, but do you doubt its capabilities. The AESA radar and PL15 are the important things in Block III.

It would be suprising given military trends, but given that a large chunk of the JAF17s avionics are made at Kamra, maybe PAF is looking to save costs by not replacing equipement used to manufacture MFD's that it already has ?

I was merely assuming and TBH with you, I am not good with Chinese language.

On your post, looking at WS-13 being tested on FC-1/JF-17 & then similarly interested for FC-31, highlights the co-relation of both platforms in regard to same engine.
WS15 is intended for J20.

WS19 is smaller in size and can be used in FC31 or JF17.

Yes and clarified that misunderstand. However, it is a far fetched idea for now and may take couple of more years when WS-19 gets validation for serial production.

This news about WS-19 is huge! That means Block 3 Engine will be ready and We Have an Engine for Project AZM - Cost saving across the board.

Its has very interesting Time line just when Block 3 design is freezes in 2017 its about this time this project also takes shape and now when Block 3 is getting ready News about WS19 comes.

WS-19 is till couple of years away from final validation & serial production/available for operational use. Also, we aren't seeing any disappointment to RD-93 engine. However, as said, there will be a choice as per interest of customer needs which may interest a different engine. If RD-93 is serving the purpose that we need, better than expected so we don't need to change it for the sake of change only. However, WS-19 for NGF/AZM or not, is not clear but we might work together with 2 other friends in regard to AZM project.

Dear Eagle,
Let me realistic about Project AZM as you may already know we have zero infrastructure to research and design an aircraft. biggest basic clue is "Wind tunnel" and alloys we do not have the expertise available. we are going to assemble Chinese designed - Chinese engine and most probably with Chinese avionics and weapons equipped aircraft. for those who think Turks will play are role may be yes but avionics wise only that to in batches.

One thing i want to add is why are we keep stating that Its not the J31 is its developed by shenyang and we seem to like chengdu? as i see it J31 is flying and chengdu design has not came out of board yet..that means far more costly then J31V2 or J31V3 plus all projects and JV are done with CATIC right which promotes both companies as part national defense industries and only exportable 5th Gen design in china at the moment is J31V2 or V3 nothing else.

Project AZM is about assembling a 5th Gen Fighter for PAF and Develop proper mindset and tactics to utilize the 5th Gen Aircraft fighting in F22 and F35 is lot more different then Flying and fighting Block 52 and Block 3 Thunders and even older Mirages and PGs.

Hi,

There is not enough information out there on the project AZM---.

The question has not been answered by the Paf---why has Paf decided to do it on its own---.

When one successful project has been completed as a JV---why not to move ahead for a second JV with china---.

It looks like the aircraft would a single engine---.

Yeah WS19 just barely started testing. It will take quite some time before the engine is considered mature. PAF will obviously play it safe(as it should). RD93 is doing the job just fine right now. If there aren't going to be anymore blocks after block III...then I think PAF might stick with RD93 there as well(maybe with an increased thrust variant). Then way down the line when it's time for like MLU...maybe WS19 can be looked into.

It's already too late to consider new engines of China that are just finishing up for fighters already designed/manufactured or that are near manufacturing(block III). However NGF(Azm) is far enough away that Pak can design it based on something like WS19(or WS15...if China allows and depending on fighter jet's size and other parameters). By the time NGF is getting ready...these engines would have matured.

Project Azm was announced in July 2017, an eleven-year long project.

It's been almost two years and full details of the project have not been released to the public as of yet.

PAF has not decided to do it all alone, they just want to lead this project.
