Islamization of Bangla threat to India: BJP MP - The Times of India

PANAJI: Alarmed over the Islamization of Bangladesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged the Union government to press the Bangladeshi government to protect minorities and to safeguard pluralism in that country.

BJP's Rajya Sabha member Tarun Vijay on Saturday told mediapersons that his party was deeply concerned and anxious over the Islamization of Bangladesh amidst massive protests from the minorities there, largest among which is the Hindu community.

Vijay said the Hindus, Christians and Buddhists of Bangladesh took out a massive morcha on the streets of Dhaka on Friday to protest the adoption of a Islamic constitution by Bangladesh.

"It is the biggest assault on pluralism and democratic norms. The minority communities will be relegated to the status of second-class citizens in Bangladesh. They will never be able to become prime ministers, presidents or even captains of their national cricket team," Vijay said.

He recollected how in Pakistan, a brilliant Christian cricket player, Mohamad Yusuf, had to convert to Islam before he could take up the captaincy of the Pakistani cricket team.

Vijay said infiltration of fundamentalist elements from Bangladesh to India is already posing a problem. "With the official Islamization of Bangladesh, more intolerant forces will infiltrate into India and pose a security threat to our nation," he said, adding that the BJP was deeply "concerned about the safety and future of minorities and the pluralism in Bangladesh".

Just curious, can anyone tell me whether Mohammad Yousuf was converted by force or not!!! If not then how this hindu extremist MP can claim such stupid comment that yousuf had to convert to get the captaincy??? I think he is not aware of the fact that a big chunk of hindus in bangladesh, WB and NE india has converted to islam in recent decades along with christianity... then are they also becoming muslim to gain something even in hindu holy land India???

What utter bullshit, firstly Mohammad Yusuf or Youhana as he was back then DID captain Pakistan prior to converting.

2nd Test: Australia v Pakistan at Melbourne, Dec 26-29, 2004 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo
(Yes the star denotes the captain)

Secondly he converted by free will. Many of his close friends such as Saeed Anwar and Inzamam were in the Tableeghi Jamaat. He may have been influenced by them.

What else can he do? it is in their nature to degrade & show Pakistan in bad light always.

Everyone knows how quickly Islam is spreading even in the West, so i don't think Pakistan is forcing Islam on western peoples.

Hindus might be coverting to Islam in Bangladesh, but don't think people in N.E or WB in India are converting to Islam. Yes NE tribal people are converting to Christianity, never heard of anything about Islam. Source for this claim of yours will be great.

That was just one off case, probably injured/unfit captain for that match, in which case the vice captain steps up as captain. Either case there is absolutely no way to substantiate this statement made by some BJP MP. Why give so much importance to what some random MP( that too Upper House, not elected) in India has to say. It was obviously for local consumption.

This is classic!

This is coming from the party that presided over the mass-killings of Muslims in India during their rule less than 10 years ago.

BD, that has never had any massacres of non-Muslims in 40 years of Independence, needs no lectures from a party of Hindu bigots.

I don't know specifically about Mr. Yousuf, but I think all conversions are by force i.e. an internal mental struggle.

Eloquently said. An individual's whole life is based on some shared beliefs and values, deciding to rip that foundation off to start over is a challenge of monster proportion.

This is what happens when truth is oppressed, books are banned and people who write about it are threatened to be killed. No wonder you dont feel any Lajja about anything.

Hint: #TasleemaNasreen #Lajja

What does this man mean Islamanization ? Bangladesh was always 100% muslim country I think he lived in his cave too long

Forced conversion or through allurement is not correct for conversion.

It should be from the heart and not because one wants to draw material benefit out of conversions.

Neither Bangladesh, Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia et al is 100% Muslims!

That is the mindset that worries.

If Bangladesh had no issues with the minorities, then the percentage would not have been so abysmally low.

Statistics over the years prove the point.

Notwithstanding, it is not for Tarun Vijay to comment on a foreign country and its demography.

Tarun Vijay should keep know that he should not interfere in domestic politics of other countries if we don't want others to interfere in Indian domestic politics.

Just like we don't like others to talk and advise us about our internal politics and issues, Tarun should keep the same view for other countries.
