You got it all wrong. Let me guide you to a proper conclusion.Secular Kemalists were wiped out of Army during Ergenekon/Balyoz fake cases made by Fethullah, and emptied ranks filled with Fethullah agents. Once Fethullah got control of majority institutions, there was only government left, so they tried the coup.
Secular Kemalists were in prisons, had no power on coup. The opposite, some of Kemalist officers released from prisons by goverment at the coup night, and they fought against Fethullah coupers.
Gulen guys are business people. They control schools and businesses even in USA. When he became a prez 18 years ago he knew that military, being an independent and uncontrollable to civilian govt institution, might dethrone him someday. So he initiated Ergenekon affair to smear military. Economy was doing good, his base was growing, people were behind him. What he didn’t achieve during Ergenekon he did in 2016. His next action- total control of media and business conglomerates. Third- change of constitution. He achieved all 3 objectives. Military no longer independent. Businesses under his control. Constitutional has been changed. No one can challenge him or remove from power. He is like Putin in Russia it’s just Russia has stabilization fund and energy resources that helps them stay afloat.
