The curse is not religion but the narrow minded, bigoted way it is interpreted & practiced. This is applicable not to SE Asia but the world in general.
Besides , it has over the centuries been hijacked by a few who are self styled custodians of the faith and choose / twist it to suit their agendas. Moderate voices get snuffed out and sidelined - even attacked.
Religion has traditionally been a binding force within the community and a reason / method to give back something to society. This applies to all religions.
Lastly, " Mazhab nahin sikhata aapas mein bair rakhna....'. If we find flaws in a religion , we ourselves are to blame for we have flawed in its execution / interpretation.
