Doesn’t make any sense that the formal Iranian Navy is obtaining Shahed-129 from one of the IRGC’s branches; while another IRGC’s branch is obtaining Fotros from the ministry of defense! Also, look at the shameful manufacturing or assembling quality of Fotros! No TQM at all.

Yes,thats what makes all of these recent claims about the fotros rather puzzling,as theres been no evidence that this was a continuing program, indeed with only one rotax engine, even if its the latest fuel injected model, its virtually impossible for a drone of this size to carry the weapons, fuel, avionics etc.. that would be required for its mission, not to mention that a drone this size would be far more suitable as a HALE [High Altitude Long Endurance] class long range reconnaissance drone.
About the only thing that would make any sense in this regard would be the irgc agreeing to take over the fotros project and bringing it to fruition itself,as its really the only one with the degree of both experience and engineering/technological capabilities to do this. This also seems more likely in my opinion as we have recently see in the last few months that the regular branches of the military have finally bitten the bullet and acquired irgc produced drones rather than continuing to fvck about wasting time and effort with their own rather lackluster [at best] or failed drone programs, tho this should`ve been done years ago frankly.

i hope fotros use turbo prop engine, if so it can carry heavier payloads so it can be more handy in conflicts like Syria:

imagine fotros carrying two sattar-4 or bina missiles or two balaban bombs alongside with four qaem-sadid-IRspike:

doubt it , the fotros was a defense ministery project , i think it was sidelined because of money and now IRGC by this move is financing it. such things happen in other countries.

Yes,a turbo prop would be ideal, tho for a drone this size it would require more than just a single tolou based turbo prop.
Another option for a single engine configuration would be the RED A03 diesel v12 aero engine. This puts out around 500hp and weighs about 360kgs,which is equal to about the weight of 4 rotax engines with a roughly similar power output, tho much better fuel economy of course and would be well suited to a long range, long endurance HALE class reconnaissance drone.

People think Iran is a magical country that just produces weapons.

It’s the same process as any other country like you said. SOMEONE has to ORDER the product, SOMEONE has to FINANCE the project.

It’s not like DM is going to magically build 25 fotros drones THEN ask the branches of the military “hey who wants a free drone”.

Contrary to public belief, Iran’s branches are pretty stingy in placing orders of new products especially if the NEED isn’t there. This is due to the tight budget most branches have. And IRGC is very pragmatic if It’s current drones can do the job then they will stick with them. Only US branches buy any and everything and never are satisfied.

Fotros with its current engine and avionics suit is underpowered for such a drone. At the minimum it should have SAR, ECW, and intelligence gathering assets built in. Not a single off the shelf FLIR that is found in a million other drones.

IRGC Gives Crushing Response to Terrorists in Western Iran

TEHRAN (FNA)- Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) launched a successful operation in Kurdistan province, West of Iran, and killed a number of terrorists who were planning to infiltrate the country from the region.
“Several terrorists were killed during clashes in Divandarreh County on Tuesday,” A statement by the IRGC’s Hamzeh Seyed al-Shohada Base said.

The statement added that three IRGC members, including Colonel Shakiba Salimi, were martyred in the clashes.

The statement praised Colonel Salimi for spending his life in maintenance of security in West of the country and also making utmost efforts to fight the coronavirus disease since the outbreak of the virus in the country.

The IRGC is actively engaged in security operations against anti-Iran terrorist groups and accordingly is attacked by entities and terrorist groups which hold grudge against Tehran.

and we lost 3 precious service members. one of which was freaking colonel. I don't think it was "IRGC gives crushing response..." I think it was the other way around.
crushing response would be "we bombed them with a drone from 5 km away and went there to gather what was left of them".

.
IRGC high ranking officers seem to have a tendency to engage directly in combat. As we know, the concept of Martyrdom is important for Iranian military, but I think we seriously need to be careful when it comes to using our human resources. We should not be losing such a high ranking officer in a relatively small encounter. I understand UAVs cannot be used in all situations, but given the Iranian development in that sector, no human should be engaging directly on a conflict that can be dealt with a UAV. I don't know if this was relevant in this case. I pray for the martyred IRGC heroes and their family.

Martyrdom is important for Iranian military

I think some sort of monetary penalty or military court would change this idea for good.
example: if you loose more than a number of soldiers in each operation, you will loose some of your income next month...

the cost of training a person to become a colonel and replace martyr salimi will be paid by the nation and it will be big. so loosing him is not much different from betraying the nation.

I think the most important thing at the moment is to find who was behind it and from where. We had a similar situation with the Kurdistan Democratic Party few years ago. 2 years ago if I'm not mistaken. A few missiles targeting their buildings and training areas took care of it. They killed 5 - 10 soldiers at maximum, had over 60 high ranking officers and office staff killed in the attack, plus tens of others injured. Our response can wait. We are in no hurry.
