Iran: Purchase of Russian Su-30 fighters on agenda

China don't have micro processor. Imported. They won't let China export J-10. JF-17 sure that's because Pakistan paid for the R&D.

I’m fairly sure the J-10A is available for export as the FC-20 as per Hui Tong’s website.

. .
you see the problem for Iran air force is you want to answer what threat ?
Iran Airforce currently is consisted of many different Airplane from different Origin , that make it a maintenance nightmare.

as its stated Iran Air-force always wanted to have two type of fighter planes , a heavy air superiority fighter and A Lighter easier to maintain one like F-16 fr every day work and bombing Run.

if you compare Su-30 with airplanes like Mig-35 or J-10c you see Su-30 cost 4 time more to fly .also you cn't consider it a light fighter . while Mig-35 and J-10c can easily replace Iran fleet of F-4, F-5 , J7 or Mirage F1 .
here you can buy Mig-35 as its on the market for sale , but I never heard of J-10c to be for offer and also it don't have system like trust vectoring for engine and it can engage less target than mig-35 at the same time and also does any body knew the range of Radar for J-10c , the one on Mig-35 can detect a 3m^2 target from 250 km away. that's why I say mig-35 is good option for replacing Iran lighter air crafts.
now when you talk of Su-30 ,you must consider it's supposed to replace f-14 not F-4 or F-5 and honestly can anybody really consider it an Upgrade over F-14 for that we need a newer modern alternative.

I like the way you explain it  . now lets a little bit hammering what you said :

Iran's Imperial Airforce Inventory : 1. Light fighters ( F-5 )(lightweight) 2. Bomber/Interceptor ( F-4 family ) (mid weight) 3. Air superiority/Interceptor (F-14) (heavy weight)

1.Light fighters : In case of light fighter jets we had F-5 and now there are domestic replacement of F-5 available know as Azarakhsh and Sa'egheh .In this class MOWJ domestic engine is ready which is 10-15 % more powerful than original engine of F-5 .

2.Bomber/Interceptor: Right after showing Mowj to public Mr Sattari announced we are working to build more powerful engines ( he exactly said 4X more powerful compared to Mowj ) which is F-4 replacement .

http://www.iribnews.ir/fa/news/1261696/موتورهای-جت-با-چهار-برابر-قدرت-کنونی-دردست-ساخت-است

3.Air superiority/Interceptor : ( personal opinion and little bit possibility of Russia's point of view) The way I see Iran's approach towards Su-30 is that our military see it as a gap filler. We are not going to buy large number of Su-30 ( so it's not a replacement for F-14 ) and we are not gonna wait for next domestic aircraft in this class since it will take a long time before we can build our own.i believe that is one of the main reasons our Russian friends are not happy with this type of deal is bc the way we want to use it !

the other reason is related to possibility of using unlicensed version of engine for civilian airliners or etc . as you know with a little bit refinement this type of engines can be used in different sections .

.................

Lack of spare parts/high maintain costs/low quality parts issues : i think you are familiar with same/similar tactics has been used in our car industry . the only purpose of these tactics is to gain more money for your company but unlike car industry we are talking about strategic relationships here . both countries are targeted by U.S economic sanctions . all of our resources are required in confrontation against U.S and there is no justifiable reason for playing little games here .

that's why they agreed to not sell iran s-300 for 10 years despite a signed contract and fully paid for after israel and the USA told russia not to??

and why did russia still not give syria s-300 to defend itself even after so many contracts signed??

common factor: israel doesn't let them.

+1!

iran must get closer to china and tell russia to go to hell, they have never been a good ally and iranians do not like russia! russia has fantastic missile and engine technology but who cares if they never sell anything useful to iran when we need it, russia's economy is finished, china and india are the future and the rest we can make ourselves.
I`d agree with most of what you`ve said except for one small thing:Russia is NOT and NEVER has been an ally of iran.An ally relationship is something like us/uk or us/israel or iran/syria,that is an ally,it is someone who will help you militarily, economically, politically and will also respect your interests and not treat you like a vassal, and it will do these things not because it expects an immediate payback but because its in the interests of both nations to be allies,by these standards russia doesnt even come remotely close to being considered an ally of iran.An ally would`ve not only supplied the s300 right away, from its own military stocks if necessary, but pretty much anything else that was asked for as well,an ally would`ve voted down unsc resolutions against iran, hell they never even would`ve been tabled in the first place, and thats only a couple of examples I can think of,there are many others like the insane amount of time to build the bushehr reactor or the su24 fleets poor serviceability because basic documentation like maintenance manuals werent supplied...etc,etc...
Frankly it baffles me that there are posters on this forum who still persist in thinking/claiming that russia is an ally of iran:hitwall:.
Dont you think that if russia was truly an ally then its treatment of iran seems remarkably poor and second rate for an ally such as iran.
:agree:

Other than Su-30, Iran can also opt for the smaller MiG-29 M / M2 bought by Egypt and Syria and Iraq. Considering Iran already operates MiG-29, the transition to the more advanced version is simple and straightforward. Smaller planes are less expensive to service.

Iran can also replace its F-7 with JF-17 which is the same size.

we are saying the exact same thing - that russia is and always has been a shit 'ally' so iran should "tell russia to go to hell" ...

In some respects this make sense.

However, longer term and politically Iran must not rely on Russia.

The major military players in the world are the US, Russia, EU and China.

Out of these choices really Iran can only approach Russia and China.

And the Russians we have seen are less than ideal as a partner.

Try the Chinese. See if you can get a license production deal for the J-10.

Let’s just say Iran picks up randomly, a hundred J-10.

You can begin to replace the F-4, F-5 and Mirage F1.

It’s a start at least.

. .
they don't have to start burning the flags, but with actions of moving closer to china and away from russia

It’s very likely if Iran shows Russia that it has choices by going Chinese, the Russians may be more apt to start selling systems that Iran wants in the first place. i.e. Su-35.

exactly, at least play the two off against each other a bit more now that china is becoming a serious competitor for russian arms exports

in 2020 the ban on importing weapons ends, iran needs a whole new air force (etc) so we should make russia choose between making israel happy and losing out on billions of dollars of deals to china

Also keep in mind the Gulf Arabs attempts to c#@kblock Iran by enticing Russia with military sales as well.

For example this “5th gen program” that UAE is supposedly working with Russia.

Also potential S-400 sales to Saudi.

Iran is besieged by its neighbors. Of course it all starts in Tel Aviv.

So yea, try to work with the Chinese. After all the Chinese understand money over everything.

Entice them with a lucrative deal for the J-10.

This will bring many benefits for Iran I believe.

China is also heavily involved with Israel but they are more independent of US/Israel than Russia so it's not as big a problem

I doubt Saudi will get s-400, America and Israel won't allow it

The sands are shifting heavily in the world currently.

Can you imagine WW1 was only 100 years ago?

How many things have happened in that period?

Amazing.

Things are setting up for the next major world conflict I believe.

On a more regional level. Iran MUST address its deficenies in the Air Force.

It’s dangerous to rely completely on indigenous programs and allow a deficit in capability.

Yeah,I think you`re pretty much right actually.:agree::cheers:
I was just pissed off as these clowns on the forum who prattle about russia being irans "ally".Ironically I used to believe that same exact stupid sh!t:tsk:.I`d watch russia at the un voting for the wests anti iran "nuclear" resolutions and think what the hell are those idiots doing?,they`re supposed to be supporting their ally not stabbing it in the back...those dirty treacherous fvcking russians no wonder they lost the cold war...etc[lol!],what a naive little fellow I was back then....:azn:
Its funny, for a long time I really held out some hope that russia would finally get its sh!t together as far as iran was concerned, but the problem was the russians always wanted to have their cake and eat it too...pretty stupid really:hitwall:,tho I also think that rouhani and co are a complete bunch of dicks for continuing to fvck about wasting more time performing anilingus on the west in the hopes that some "dialogue among civilizations" may occur[lol!]:cuckoo:.

Agreed!,its utterly stupid to kick out the west and regain your independence and sovereignty only to then ultimately wind up as nothing more than a vassal state of russia,it`d be out of the frying pan and into the fire,so to speak. What a total waste of 4 decades of effort on irans part.
