With regards to this news, this nuclear submarine development will be a long term goal for Iran. Iran's next gen submarines will all have AIP, starting from the next gen Fatehs. Nuclear submarine are good for second strike capability. That's a long term future "if" scenarios for Iran. If it decides to go for nuclear second strike capability. The development of the actual nuclear reactor technology is still very important for Iran, regardless of whether it uses such reactors in a submarine project or not.
