Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Pakistani counterpart Khawaja Muhammad Asif mulled the ways for realizing the project on Iran-Pakistan joint gas pipeline.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 7th Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process Ministerial Conference on December 1.

The ministers further considered the economic issues and energy cooperation.

The Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project (also called Peace pipeline) worth $7.5 billion has been discussed for years. The 2,700 kilometer-long pipeline is meant to deliver gas from the Assalouyeh Energy Zone in southwestern Iran to Pakistan.

Iran has already completed the construction of its section of the pipeline from the South Pars field to Pakistani border. Pakistani section of the pipeline is still not ready and Islamabad explains the delay by the lack of funds.

Iran is planning to export 1.5 million cubic meters (mcm) per day natural gas to the country.

@BATMAN
If the problem of Pakistani side ends (lack of funds as it's claimed), 1.5 million cubic meters per day can be a good energy-source for Pakistan's factories and cities.

Hopefully it will be prepared until the end of 2018.

Lack of funds is no issue, you should sell it at market price. Indian contract with US can serve as good example.
Infrastructure exist on our side, but I don't agree that Iranian gas must be shipped in pipelines.

Then what is your suggestion?

LNG?

LNG has it's own price, India-US Gas project is a joke. It will have 2X cost for Indian companies, we shall see. Example of LNG was Qatari LNG that it's price was far more than a pipeline. Price wasn't the issue, iguess, it's more political and possibly the funds claimed by Pak side.

No necessarily... we have very modern gas distribution infrastructure in Pakistan.
We only need to hookup to Iranian pipeline which only make sense, when the contract is long term, but what's the deal?
Its not being made public, neither from Iranian side and neither from Pakistani side.
However, we in Pakistan will welcome if Iran leak the deal, unilaterally.
