What's new

Indigenous aircraft carrier to be launched in August: Antony

He is telling the truth. Launched doesn't mean that it will be serving in the navy, or even ready for trials. It simply means that the ship will be pushed into the water. @Capt.Popeye can shed more light on this.

INS arihant was launched in 2009, although its powerplant will only start functioning sometime this year.

After it is launched, a lot of work remains to be done. After that it will undergo sea trials, and THEN join the navy. So we can expect another five years, which means about 2018, which is what the anticipated year of commisioning is.

IAC-1 will get inducted around 2018, agreed

Guys...Just wanted to share an INFO....

Watch NDTV watan ke Rakhwale Tonight at 9:00 PM IST on Indian Navy Naval Air Arm :tup:

@Abingdonboy ;)
Thanks for the heads up bro- cant wait!!

5 years of sea trial seems a bit too much, isn't?

Not 5 years of sea trails. From Aug 2013 to ~2018 final outfitting and system integration will take place ie sensors, weapons, lights,toilets,sinks, ovens,tvs etc etc all have to be fitted between now and ~2018. A LOT of work still has to be done right now much of the superstructure and fabrication work is complete but it's is nowhere near ready. After 2018 the ship will go through probably more than a year of sea trials before it is commissioned.

i wana see f-35 on INC-1,2,3 not mig-29k...

No way dude. At present only MIGs and N.LCA.. But in future carriers you can see either rafaleM, silent hornet or may be N.AMCA. Chance for F35 or C is less in indian market.
