What's new

Indigenous aircraft carrier to be launched in August: Antony

No way dude. At present only MIGs and N.LCA.. But in future carriers you can see either rafaleM, silent hornet or may be N.AMCA. Chance for F35 or C is less in indian market.

Rafale M may not be good choice as its wings can not be folded.

Yes that's the main concern in rafaleM that eats the lot of carriers space, but are there any chance of making it into a foldable wing aircraft in future.

5 years of sea trial seems a bit too much, isn't?

Trials will be atmost 1/1.5 years AFTER the work is done ;) it means we still have 3/4 years of work left

Anybody have any idea about the proposed self defence system of IAC ??? Barak ???

^^may be, no news suggesting that plans are being drawn to introduce Rafael M with foldable wings

Yes it will be fitted with LR-SAM(most probably BARAK-ER only) along with 3-4*76mm guns(and this will be Otobreda 76 mm) and 1 CIWS.

Not quite. More likely only Barak 1 SR-SAMs, AK CIWS systems (4-6), a few 40 mm or 35 mm systems apart from some 20 mm chain-guns. No chance of 76mm SRGMs at all. Or even a LR-SAM system. Remember that the Carrier will always sail with a Screen of Ships.

Well some good news comin in. I hope IAC 2 will be nuclear powered otherwise waste of time and funds. Should put its output at 100k+ tonnes to make a point in this region. :butcher:

The aircraft carrier will be fitted with a vertical launch system for long-range surface-to-air missiles. A close-in weapon system will provide self-defence for the ship against incoming anti-ship missiles and aircraft. Four OTO Melera 76mm Super Rapid guns - two on the bow section and two at the stern side – will be fitted. They can fire 120 rounds a minute at a range of 30,000m.
Vikrant Class - Naval Technology
Dude our navies requirement is this only in its weapon system and naval technology site is also confirmed this only.
And also we are not having dedicated support ships or more number support to our carrier and in near future also we are not going to have a credible support for our carrier what the US navy having or in future what PLAN is going to have. So it need its own weapon support system to protect her.

I will believe when I see it! :)
Don't forget that weapon systems like SRGMs and LR-SAM launchers eat up subtantial bits of space on a ship. On a small Carrier that is critical space lost. apart from that; No Carrier can fully protect itself, the screen is a MUST.
