this total misunderstand part, you guys always taunt us on this Part @Novice09 , the reality is that they especially design/tested it for Pakistan and remember its govt (Pakistan) and company (CAC) project (semi govt/semi private) deal and as for why China don't using FC-1, the reason is very simple China is 4th largest country of the world (by area) they need bigger jet to cover vast swath of their country with better range, better payloads etc etc @Novice09

Even India can say that SU 30 MKI was designed and developed by Russia for India but it is far from truth...

Let me help you.

First of all, BVR will be the domain of AEWACS + Thunder combination. If Tejas survives that, then those large compound delta wings will always hold it back during a sustained turn. It will be no match to the Thunder in a turning fight because it will lose altitude. Tejas also has a mediocre T/W ratio of 0.96 (Wikipedia), although the large wing should provide better lift. But we have not seen any reviews, discussion, videos about its transonic performance. From what I can see, that rising canopy will create drag issues. Similarly for the bifurcated intake. This means, the large thrust of the F404 won't be of much use.

But probably the worst thing about Tejas is its weight distribution. We have only seen vidoes in clear weather. I would like to see what happens if it ever faces a thunder storm, or high gusts of winds. There are also question marks around its stability when firing missiles at high speed. With the Thunder, we have videos of releasing ammunition at high speed. It has actually shot down an Iranian drone, and it has participated in military exercises around the world.

I guess, the real first test of Tejas would be its performance in an exercise with an external airforce. If IAF don't have the confidence to field it in external exercises, rest assured they wouldn't have the confidence to field it in combat.
