What's new

India's Tejas flounders while Pakistan's JF-17 Thunder soars to new heights

do we really need to work on engines ? i think no
This is what I am saying. At the end of day fighter jet which matters. Delay cost them & their time, And I think delay of tejas will pay fruits , delayed due to change in design & testing testing, to make true 4+ gen fighter. W.r.t to performance , it will beat jf17 block1 and blockII, as 8 V 7 hardpoints, and large variety of western , Russian, Israeli system which we don't enjoy.

Do you believe we can make jet without help from china. Atleast india is trying indigenous and they tried to make engine too, not success but still it achieved more than 70% of desired KN thrust. No doubt it was delinked with tejas but Also GTX 35-VS engines for ships, and Ghatak engine for Indian UCAV they trying indigenous engines . And for civilians, one can't ignore the performace and quality of indian railway engines .

Kaveri is not de-linked with Tejas programme... we just accepted the reality that development of Engine will take MORE TIME and procured few for initial jets...

India is still following that dream... a jet with domestic engine and armaments is not far away...

If anyone want to save this reply... they can...

If Modi G wins in 2019... you will see Tejas MK2 in sky by 2020 or early 2021... and it would be a deadly machine with longer range... actually all arms manufacturer are rattled by the push for self reliance by this government...

Germany is still a better partner then france for india because

Germany offered them a failed and rejected tank project to india under arjun but france forced them to consider a fighter which failed in 2009 trials in india and sold them design of lca which is beyond the capabilities of indian industries to complete and become operational

@The Eagle @waz

Tejas is duck which lays golden eggs for DRDO / HAL while JF-17 is a need of a nation...period

No need to compare the two.....
Tejas is mostly indigenous while JF-17 was designed manufactured in China and assembled in Pakistan.

The thread is about comparison so is the OP. Are you a bit slow?

Engine, Radar 60% other parts are indigenous?

Almost 60% indigenous. There's a lot of threads about it.
It's about making the infrastructure and R&D for aviation industry which can take time. You won't understand cos Pakistan can't even make good cars let alone fighter jets

Again same trolling, same this and that ,same hate for each other, same things which I am being listening on this topic since last three years, is PDF destined to touch the lowest level by Allowing such threads to run, nothing new here just copy paste or rewriting of the news which we already now by main stream media many days before,

Block 1 is not a modern jet by any mean... Block 2 can be put in that category... Block 3 is a real fighter jet...

I focused on MANUFACTURING part... of JF 17...
You focus on DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT part... of Tejas...

While @Windjammer is still stuck at Tejas displayed on Truck top... we have moved ahead by flying it in Baharain... firing Derby and LGB... hot refuelling done... In flight fueling is under testing phase... Integration of Astra missile by 2019...

If someone ask me about delays, I will agree on that but it's current progress is satisfactory... production is in full swing and first squadron is fully active...

I never want to mention JF-17 in Tejas related threads but trolls force me to show them the mirror...
What are you harping about....the fact is the JF-17 was introduced on Pakistan day with conducting a flypast where as the Tejas until last year was being dragged on a trailer during India's Republic day parade.
And before trying to show others the mirror, you first need to identify your own self.
Let me give you a history lesson on how much in put from all over the world has gone into Tejas and yet you have the insanity to call it indigenous.

''What actually happened between 1983 and 2000? First, let us take the promise of indigenous development. In 1986 an agreement was quietly signed with the United States that permitted DRDO to work with four US Air force laboratories. The to-be-indigenously-developed engine for the LCA -- Kaveri -- was forgotten and the US made General Electric F-404 engine was substituted. Radar was sourced from Erricson Ferranti, carbon-fibre composite panels for wings from Alenia and fly-by-wire controls from Lockheed Martin. Design help was sought from British Aerospace, Avion Marcel Dassault and Deutsche Aerospace. Wind tunnel testing was done in the US, Russia and France. As for armaments -- missiles, guns, rockets and bombs -- every last item was to be imported.''

You don't need to give a lesson on History... I know that Tejas is delayed at least by 10 years... how many FC 1 does China has in its inventory... zero... but they were able to sell a rejected jet to someone...

Kaveri was not forgotten... we are working on it... F 404 and 414 were bought as Kaveri was not ready and its development was not giving the desired result...
even your FC1 has a Russian engine... why???

If there is any Indian armament capable of integration on a lighter jet... it is there on Tejas...

I can also dig old reports to show how capable JF 17 was at the time of induction...

No we don't, its sad truth @Novice09 :( but you have to be remember that its our first learning project to how to manufacture a modern jet at home @Novice09
yes it is, many avionic parts along with their power modules, mfds, guided munition, comm links and not to mention a state of the art manufacturing facility following international aviation standards. These are just a few examples to make my point as I have limited inside exposure to this project.

No Block-1 is comparable to F-16 block-5 or block-15, whereas block-2 is 80% capable to F-16 block-30/32,

We did jointly conduct R&D and feasibility studies For JF-17 project @Novice09
