Pakistani troops on Sunday targeted forward posts and villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir with mortar shells and gunfire in violation of the ceasefire, police said.

Indian troops guarding the LoC fired in retaliation and the firing between the two sides continued for nearly half-an-hour from 1300 hours, a police officer said, adding that there was no report of any casualty.

This is the second time in this week that Pakistani troops targeted Indian positions in the area. On March 27, Pakistani troops fired mortar bombs ending a 10-day long lull in the cross-border firing along the LoC in the state.

Earlier on March 18, five members of a family were killed and two others injured when a mortar shell hit their residential house in Balakote sector of the district.

There has been a spurt in ceasefire violations along the LoC and the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir this year, resulting in the death of 26 people including 12 security personnel. PTI

Anantnag, March 31

Militants carried out two attacks in south Kashmir on Saturday, killing a Special Police Officer (SPO) of the J&K Police in Pulwama district and injuring another in Anantnag district.

The slain policeman has been identified as Muhammad Ashraf Mir of Machpoona in Pulwama district. The injured policeman has been identified as Trilok Singh. He was shifted to a hospital in Srinagar for specialised treatment.

The police said Mir — who was posted with a counter-insurgency unit in Srinagar — had visited Pulwama to condole the death of a relative when he was ambushed, chased and shot by militants. The shooting took place around 4.30 pm on Saturday.

“He was fired at by militants in the Murran Chowk area of the town. He was at present residing at Channapora in Srinagar and was off-duty,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Pulwama, Chaudhary Muhammad Aslam.

Mir was rushed to a hospital with multiple firearm injuries and succumbed there. “The case is being investigated,” said the Pulwama SSP.

Earlier during the day, suspected militants opened fire at SPO Trilok Singh in the Khannabal locality of Anantnag town. “He was on duty at Khannabal Chowk when militants fired at him,” a senior police officer said.

The officer said Trilok was immediately rushed to District Hospital, Anantnag. A doctor at the hospital said Trilok Singh had a bullet injury on the right side of his chest.

Srinagar, April 1

Militant groups in the Valley suffered a major setback as 12 militants were gunned down in counter-insurgency operations in three different areas in south Kashmir in which three Army jawans and four civilians were also killed.

The police said that an ultra had also surrendered before the security forces in Anantnag district.

At a hurriedly called joint press conference of Army, police and CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police chief S P Vaid said this is one of the biggest counter-offensives in recent times against terror groups operating in the Kashmir Valley.

The three slain soldiers were identified as gunner Arvinder Kumar, gunner Nilesh Singh and sepoy Hetram.

The operations by security forces rendered a severe dent to militant groups , officials said here.

Three Army jawans have lost their lives in the operations at Kachdooru in Shopian, officials said, adding three bodies of militants have been recovered from the debris so far.

The operation has been called off at Kachdooru and the security personnel will search the debris tomorrow again, the officials said.

Earlier, at a press conference called at Victor Force headquarters at Awantipura, around 33 km from here, Corps Commander of XV Corps, Lt Gen A K Bhatt, termed it one of the biggest operations in recent times and said the death of Lt Umar Fayaz, who was brutally killed in Shopian last year, had been avenged.

"Among the militants killed are Ishfaq Malik and Rayees Thokar. They were responsible for his death," Bhatt said.

Fayaz, 22, was killed by militants in May last year. His body was found with bullet wounds in the Hermain area of Shopian district in south Kashmir.

The DGP also made a special mention of an SSP's efforts to convince a militant to surrender during the Dialgam encounter.

"I would like to make a special mention about the Dialgam encounter where our Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) made a special effort, which is unheard of in any part of the world.

"He called the family members of one of the terrorists. They spoke with him for 30 minutes, to convince him to surrender," the officer said.

"Unfortunately, he did not heed the advice of his family. During the talks, the district SSP tried to get him over. Instead he fired on the police leaving the police with no option other than to retaliate. He was killed. The other one was caught alive," he said.

On the ongoing operations at Kachedoora, the DGP said there was information about the presence of four to five militants, but "we will be able to give a clear picture only after the debris is cleared".

One civilian death was reported from Draggad and the other at Kachudoora, both in Shopian district, the police chief said.

Violence broke out at the Kachedoora encounter site in which 25 civilians received pellet injuries while six others suffered bullet injuries, the police chief said.

The DGP said all the seven militants killed in the Draggad encounter were locals and their bodies have been claimed by their families.

Inspector General of CRPF Zulfikar Hassan pointed out that people came in large numbers at the encounter site in Shopian.

"The operations will not stop and we will have to take all offensive measures in case they do not refrain from throwing stones at the jawans engaged in the counter-insurgency operations," he said.

It was painful to see young boys getting killed in this manner, the DGP said.

"I urge all the parents to appeal to their children to shun the path of violence and join the national mainstream," Vaid said. With PTI

Videos by militants, leaked and uploaded on multiple social media platforms, became “the main technical input” for carrying out triple “coordinated operations” in south Kashmir’s Anantnag and Shopian on Sunday, the police said.

A video uploaded in the last week of March showed 19 armed militants, several carrying two AK-47s, with a foliage-filled backdrop, “hinting that the video is recent and shot in south Kashmir”. One slain militant, Ubaid Shafi Malla, figured “prominently” in the video. “The video triggered a major lookout,” said a senior counter-insurgency official.

Three family members were also injured during the incident.

Armed militants injured three civilians and abducted an inmate after barging into a civilian house in Bandipora's Hajin, 30 km from Srinagar.

A police official said four militants of the Pakistan based corps barged into the house of Farooq Ahmad Parrey at 10:10 p.m in Hajin.

"The militants used knives and guns and caused grevious injuries to Parrey's wife, daughter and brother," said the police.

The injured were identified as Rafeeqa, Neelofar and Hilal Ahmad Parrey. Rafeeqa has "serious" firearm injury. "Militants used sharp weapons to injure others," the police said.

They were shifted to a Srinagar hospital.

The police said the militants also abducted Muntazir Ahmad Parrey, who is a son in law of the house owner.

"Efforts are on by the police to trace out the abducted person," said the police spokesman.

The police said Mr. Parrey's son Muzzafar Ahmad Parrey alias Muzz Nata was killed by militants last summer.

Meanwhile, the police lodged an FIR into the incident. "An investigation has been set into the motion," said the spokesman.

Five army soldiers, including an officer, were injured in fresh cease-fire violation by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

A defence spokesperson said that Pakistani army violated ceasefire and opened fire in Krishna Ghati sector early morning. "Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics and mortars. An army officer and four soldiers were injured in Pakistani firing," he said and added Indian Army retaliated strongly and effectively.

The injured, according to an official, were airlifted to Command Hospital Udhampur for specialized treatment. The injured were identified as Lieutenant Kallmputi Bhargava, Naib Subedar Mahlya Vikas Motilal, Subedar Sakunday Sameer Kashi Nath, Naik Dhumal Sandeep and Sepoy Mastpuray Subham.

Reports said the intermittent firing and shelling was going on in the area. Pakistan Army has been violating ceasefire along the LoC and International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir frequently. Since the third week of January, 26 persons, including 12 security personnel and 14 civilians, have been killed in Pakistani ceasefire violations along the LoC and the IB in Jammu.

In February, four army personnel, including a 22-year-old captain, were killed in Pakistani shelling along the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri districts. A senior army official said security forces have strengthened presence all along the IB and the LoC. "There are reports that militants have mixed up with Pakistan army to target the army, BSF and infiltrate into the Indian territory. Taking no chance, security forces were taking all steps to counter infiltration attempts by the militants on the border," he said.

The Indian and Pakistani armies had agreed to a ceasefire along the LoC, the International Border (IB) and along Actual Ground Position Line at Siachen glacier in November 2003. Although it held good for 10-years, in the last few years, Pakistani troops have violated the ceasefire agreement hundreds of times.

India shares a 3,323-km-long border with Pakistan of which 221 km of the IB and 740 km of the LoC fall in Jammu and Kashmir.

http://www.tribuneindia.com/news/ja...een-hiding-in-forests-for-20-days/569225.html

The four militants killed in Sunderbani on March 28 had managed to give the slip to security forces for around 20 days. The militants had infiltrated through the Line of Control (LoC) on March 7-8.

“They probably infiltrated through the Battal area along the LoC in the Sunderbani sector and hid in a forest waiting for the guide to take them forward. The security forces had no idea till March 24 when they reached Mala village after travelling around 20 km from the LoC,” a highly placed source told The Tribune.

They had managed to slip through the cordon thrice till they were finally trapped in a forest area near the BSF’s 126 Battalion camp here.

Sources said the heavily armed militants had spent days together in the forest area before they got exposed.

“The non-availability of food forced them to come out of their hideout. They entered a house on March 24 in Mala village and left after getting some food at gunpoint,” said a source.

“Once the militants left the house, the police was informed about their presence and a manhunt was launched by the Army. The search operation was called off after the militants could not be traced. The militants were then seen near Jogi Nullah on the next day but managed to again give the slip to security forces,” the source said.

The militants remained in hiding in a forest area near Sunderbani.

“It was on March 27 evening that they again got exposed when two of the militants came to a shop to buy food. First they pretended to be Army men but changed their statement and said they were BSF men when confronted by an ex-serviceman,” the source said.

As information reached the police and other security agencies about their presence, the manhunt was launched and forces cordoned the entire area.

“The contact was made with the militants around 7.30 am on March 28. They again managed to flee but could not break the cordon. They were finally trapped near a forest area close to the BSF’s 126 Battalion,” the source further said.

I read this claim every 60 days, do something or at least avoid repeating. Or wait is this being said on purpose to justify an operation later...gawd it is repetitious

8-year-old kept captive, raped, beaten to death

The eight-year-old girl allegedly raped by six men, who had held her in captivity in a small village temple in Kathua district for a week in January, was kept sedated and sexually assaulted once again before she was bludgeoned to death, reveals the charge sheet in the case.

The abduction, rape and killing of the Bakherwal girl was part of a carefully planned strategy to remove the minority nomadic community from the area, reveals the 15-page charge sheet filed by the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Crime Branch in the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court here on Monday.

It lists the caretaker of the Devisthan, a small temple, in Rassana village in Kathua, about 90 km from here, as the main conspirator behind the abduction, rape and killing.

Sanji Ram was allegedly joined by special police officers Deepak Khajuria and Surender Verma, friend Parvesh Kumar alias Mannu, Ram’s nephew, a juvenile, and his son Vishal Jangotra alias “Shamma.”

The charge sheet also names investigating officers, head constable Tilak Raj and sub-inspector Anand Dutta, who allegedly took ₹4 lakh from Ram and destroyed crucial evidence. A separate charge sheet was filed on Tuesday on the role of the juvenile, who cannot be named according to law.

All eight are under arrest.

The document lays bare the larger conspiracy to instil fear in the Bakerwal community and explains in chilling detail how it was carried out. The eight-year-old had gone missing on January 10 while grazing horses in the forest. Investigators said the accused abducted the girl on the pretext of helping her find her horses.

The day after their daughter went missing, the parents went to the Devisthan and asked Ram about her whereabouts. He said she may have gone to a relative’s house. According to the charge sheet, the accused gave the girl sedatives to make her unconscious while holding her in captivity.

Meanwhile, lawyers in Jammu on Wednesday struck work in support of the accused.
