India should have annexed Bangladesh: Assam BJP MLA

In medieval ages, Assam was a remote, poor, thinly populated and forbiding terrain without much prospect to raise tax.So Bengal king/sultan just ignored that place. Bengal's ruler's had their eyes on Bihar and Orissa. That's why in a large part of the recorded history, these two entities was part of Bengal's rule.
Couldn't be further from the truth, Ahom kingdom of the time thwarted every attempt of invasion from the Mughals and their vassal states and were the only one in India to do so. They even went on to plunder the Mughal possessions in Dacca to return with wealth and prisoners. You don't even know your history well one can hardly expect you to know about the exploits of Ahom kings Jayadhwaj and Chakradhwaj Singha, and of Bir Lasit Borphukan.

And to think that such a desolate place would have the most unique socioeconomic and political organisation of the time, the very foundation of the mighty Ahom kingdom was based on it helping them last more than 600 years resisting invasions from the barbaric hordes.

Do not talk bullshit. Mir Jumla , the Mughal ruler of Bengal sent army who even captured the capital of Ahom kingdom. But Mughal could not hold on there mainly because adverse weather and terrain(torrential rain, flood, tropical hilly mountainous terrain) and Mughal was not that committed to hold Ahom. They had far better possession in Assam, the Kamrup kingdom.Mughal have defeated far, far mightier opponents in their vast empire stretching from Afghanistan to Bengal, Ahom was nothing and the Mughal did not committed sufficient force for permanent obliteration of Ahom kingdom and occupation.Cost/benefit analysis was simply not worth it. In most of the battle, Mughal usually gained upper hand and hold thereafter for few years, but forced to abandon due to adverse geography and counter attack by ahom some years later. That was like Cat vs Mouse fight. There was no records that Mughal sent any large army to conquer ahom kingdom.

You are making a mountain upon molehill. Ahom never entered Dacaa. But they came close to it. But that was their once in a 600 years opportunity! And that was happened when 4 sons of Emperor Shah Jahan was in a bitter power struggle to capture the throne in Agra including the Shahzada Shah Suja, the ruler of Bengal. As Shah Suja was preoccupied with the sub-continent wide power struggle and chaos, the Ahom managed to do a sneaky attack penetrating Bengal and came close to Dacca then withdrawn with some loots and prisoners. That was an extra-ordinary times and Ahom just utilized a chaotic situation. And you are boosting about this piratical act of Ahom? with which you even do not share any semblance. If anything, current ahom/assamese will be happy if they can drive you out from assam. They do not like Bengalis either Hindu or Muslim. You should remember that and stop defending them if you consider yourself really a @Bharotiyo_Bangal .:P

Why are the Ahoms to blame if they used the terrain to their advantage against a much formidable enemy, is that not the case in every war. Take the battle of Saraighat as an example if you may. In spite of boasting of a much stronger navy the Mughal invading forces were completely routed by the small boats of the Ahom kingdom. Mughals simply failed provide any answer to the guerilla style of warfare. Unlike the invading hordes, the Ahoms were not expansionists, Lachit Borphukan asked his troops to not attack the retreating mughals once they crossed Manas. They only wanted to safeguard their territories against foreign invaders.

Hindu or Muslim.
This war should not be viewed as a Hindu vs Muslim fight, like the rest of the fights of the time. Mughals had Ram Singh fighting for them while Bagh Hazarika(Ismail Siddique) assisted Lasit Borphukan.

Coming to your last point, irrespective of what you outsiders think there is only an Indian nationality and everything else pales in insignificance.

Bangladesh still has millions and millions of Pakistan lovers as per Hasina.

Maybe use that logic to still annex bangladesh.

@Śakra wants it done

Dont be such a hater

You once said to me India is the mother. Where is your maternal instincts.

They have an aspiring dictator in charge. Use the golden opportunity. Plus it helps with my Rakhine state initiative.

Our honourable prime minister hasn't said anything like that. She said there r still few bad apples among us who r poisoning the mind of our young generation and conspiring against us. Therefore they need to be weeded out for the betterment of the country.

BTW uncle jee, congratulations for crossing the 100bn dollar milestone. Enjoy the moment with a piece of hilsa fry. :toast_sign:

Your account of Assam history may not be correct. Mughals were not annihilated, but, as in every war, there were temporary setbacks also during the Assam invasion by Mir Jumla. But, finally the Bengal Mughals prevailed due to his bold military leadership. He and his forces endured a six month long hardship in flood, lack of supply of logistics and continuous harassment by the Ahomese. Please read the excerpts below from the chronicles of Assam of that period:

"On the 5th January, 1663, the Ahom Raja sent his princess Ramani Ghabharu (also called Nangchen Gabharu), the hostages, 20,000 tolas of gold, 40,000 tolas of silver and 10 well-trained elephants to the Mughal camp, and the Raja promised to send the balance of 30 elephants before the Mughal army’s arrival at Lakhau. After the conclusion of the treaty, Mir Jumla issued the order to his army to return to Bengal on the 10!h January, 1663".

Note that Mir Jumla died of illness after the conclusion of this Mughal-Assam Treaty. Assam Princess was sent to Mughal Harem in Delhi.

We are comparing different timelines here. I was referring to Ram Singh's involvement on behalf of Aurangzeb in the battle of Saraighat where despite initial setback against a much stronger opposition Ahoms managed to decimate the invaders.
Mir Jumla died of illness
Jayadhwaj Singha died a broken man too, having required to pay indemnity and send his girl child to the Mughal harem. But we must understand that the treaty of Ghilajharighat was a clever ploy by the Ahom king to buy precious time. As it turned out, Mughals couldn't take their entire loot back and the onset on monsoon made it even tougher for them to hold on to their possessions.

All their defense purchases are to line their politicians pockets and the Sanghi fan-boys' entertainment value.

Quite rich coming from most corrupt country in South Asia. As already explained by @Nilgiri

Bangladesh CPI score 2016: 26

India CPI score 2016: 40

Bangladesh now ranks 145 out of 176 while India ranks 79.

https://www.transparency.org/news/feature/corruption_perceptions_index_2016#table

And heard anyone from Bangladeshi MSM talking about Bangladesh's 'showcase projects' costing several times the project cost of such projects anywhere ?

Or about no DPRs or detailed cost breakups being released to public or contracts being awarded to companies without competitive bidding?

Nah, all of them are busy blowing trumpet of 'great progress in infrastructure'-which comes as 3X the actual price. In an LDC!!!

There is a reason why Bangladesh's CPI score being stuck at a pathetic 26 for 4 years. Swamp dwellers would remain gullible fools forever...

miserable excuse of a country

Are you talking about an LDC which is known to be the source of refugees everywhere ? Million of Bangladeshi have already left BD- not on H1B visas, but as refugees !!

What country are most of Europe’s illegal migrants coming from? You might think Syria or some other war-torn nation. You would be wrong. According to the International Organization for Migration, the top “sending” country is a democracy that claims to have made strides in human development: Bangladesh.

There you have WaPo giving BBS liars a reality check...

And your compatriots risk their lives to India- which you diss so much. Do I really need to post that UN report about 3 million ingrates in India again ?

Ask these millions of refugees & they'll tell you how f*cked up Bangladesh really is.

Stop living in your delusional world where Bangladeshis consume '300 taka tea' & take care of your population so that they don't have to pole-vault to anywhere.

They will never amount to one-tenth of China in anything they try

Yeah keep fantasizing about that...

Why do you blame others for your own faults? Mir Zafar met the Nawab at some point during the first half of the war, but stayed quite a few km. away with his troops behind the Nawab's camp. With Mir Zafar's forces were the forces of General Yar Latif Khan, Jagatseth and other generals.

PDF is not a history class. But, we should not blame everything on Mir Zafar. I am happy to read that you have not blamed him for the rainfall from the sky. I blame the superstitious minds of Muslims of Bengal. I can still see it in larger degree among them. They were probably waiting for a divine intervention in Plassey that did not come about. Muslims are just like this.

Are you saying that Jagat Seth was a general?

As usual you have Joe sucking up to rabid indophobic types. What's wrong with you ?

Not Indophobic; Sanghophobic.
