India’s Quiet Counter-China Strategy

I can't agree with you there as the same can be said about India's relationship with America, Japan, South Korea and Russia etc.
Pakistan is a close and dependable friend of China and we regard them as brothers and sisters. Our relations cannot be used as bargainig chips. It is as simple as that.

Fair enough. Well why do we have issues with India getting close to America then?

:disagree: China will not stop supporting Pakistan, but China could try to defuse the hatred between Pakistan and India.
China can not betray allies. That is not consistent with the principles of Chinese diplomacy.

Diplomatic relations between China and India to improve, it is only by strengthening trade relations. Only trade can influence the Chinese Govt.

I didn't mean stop supporting Pakistan. China can be neutral when it comes India-Pakistan? I personally think China has more to gain from improving relationship with India, than say alienating it just cause Pakistan wants it do so.

All China has succeeded in is, diverting some of hatred Indians feel for Pakistan towards China

Fair enough.

If a future war is inevitable (I hope it isn't), then we might as well have a "soft enemy". We went head-to-head against the USA in the 1951 Korean war, and the Soviet Union in the Sino-Soviet split. Fighting back these superpowers was great for morale, but tiring.

Better to have someone soft. :D

Not soft militarily but weak willed politically.

Not really. India has no influence on Taiwan.

We have lots of Influence over Pakistan

But not over India! So there.

It is more about intentions rather than current situation. The situation can change if intentions change.

Don't you think this thing may be just a perception?

That things may not be exactly as you plan or can change pretty quick?

Frankly there is no issue big enough for India and China to go to war and destroy what has been achieved with so much struggle and sacrifices.

There is just too much to lose and too little to gain.

Like I said, I hate war. Especially wars that could easily have been avoided.

I was just stating what the "silver lining" would be.

No, the Indian defeat in 1962 was rooted in a failure of political leadership. I'm not sure India has proven that it's political leadership has gotten it's act together.
