India’s Quiet Counter-China Strategy

partners in South Asia who define their nationalism in terms of being anti India.

Which begs the question, why is anti-India sentiment so popular in the first place?

Some of the opinions are really pathetic and lack even basic facts.

I agree the G20 membership was earned by India.
About the UNSC, I think she is referring to the statements of support in favor of the permanent seat.
The nuclear deal and defence deals with ToT are Western gifts.

How do they signal this?

It is a restatement of the thesis that India is given more importance than it deserves by the West.

chinese always tell us how benevolent they are and the want a "peaceful rise" but the vast majority of its neighbors would gladly side with America.

the chinese of course would get defensive and tell us that we are all US's poodles. yes the people of east asia rather be a poodle to uncle sam than be a friend with china.

the chinese are your typical bully though, they can only pick on monks and smaller nations. but when the big dogs rolls around they bow their heads and "me love du long dime, me wok hard for du, please no hurd the feelbing of the chinese people"

Hahaha that s why we chinese are more smart than you japanese we only take on stronger opponent when we are ready to deal with it , after all we dont want to end up like japan with 4 nuclear bombs in our country.

lol this is ironic coming from a Japanese person.

Well, large neighbors are not popular anywhere.

India can share a part of the blame but not all of it.

Just as an exampple: China is not popular among her neighbors but is popular in South Asia, solely because of the India factor.

No one has gifted UNSC seat to India or anyone. The statements in support are because they feel it is in their long term interest to support India. No one does charity in international diplomacy.

Nuclear deal is mainly commercial. The strategic part is also in mutual interests.

Defense deal with TOT are because they need the deals more than India! They need to keep those factories humming and the skilled workers in jobs. It is all for mutual benefit. Why project it as a favor?

It is a restatement of the thesis that India is given more importance than it deserves by the West.

This thesis is without basis. Even many eminent Pakistanis are getting it now. Many just don't want to believe that today's India is not the same as the one in the 1990. 20+ years of sustained economic growth and corresponding diplomatic strides have changed India.

Just watch your own supposedly "hawkish on India and the West" former foreign secretary acknowledge this.

Watch all three parts when you get the time.

Frankly, I see no need to emphasize what is already clear to much of the world. India is arriving at the world stage. There is a lot you can gain by engaging India. That is what the forward looking countries are doing.

Some may chose to close their eyes to this. We will not be the loser.

I like India-Vietnam partnership, they are the perfect partners for us in the South China Sea.

Yes you can have a trade relationship with Vietnam but they wont dare do anything that will make the Dragon angry.

While the Indians here are chest thumping about their would be strategy in future, is it just me who can see that China has successfully circled up India. On land, China has built up the necessary infrastructure to encircle India and at sea China is building several ports which are almost complete. For the Chinese strategy, i am actually seeing tangible results while for the Indian, all i am hearing are empty statements.

Irresponsible racist comment. That shows the Imperialist Japanese mentality has yet to die. While you Japanese may claim to have changed, that you "regret" WWII, your idea of japanese superiority lives on strong. That is why Japan must never be allowed to rule Asia again. It is too proud, too insular, too much of an island to care about the welfare of the rest of Asia.

Now thats funny, really! I really LOL'ed!

It goes like this: When a black man calls another brother the "N word", thats NOT racism! When Desis make fun of other desis thats not racism! When a Jew makes fun of another Jew, thats not anti-semitism! When white blokes make fun of hillibillies or rednecks, again thats NOT racism!

Get the drift?

Unless one considers the Chinese and Japanese belonging to different races, then that would explain the racial superiority oneupmanship each tried to show in the past!

Funny thing is, Japan crawls on its knees to the white man while we fought the US twice and Russia once. Japan got its kicked bad by the US while only 5 years later we kicked the US back 400 km and 20 years later kicked by US out of Vietnam. There are zero foreign military bases on Chinese soil, there are 5 on Japanese soil. If a US soldier commits rape, murder or deals drugs in Japan, he is immune to judicial prosecution. If this person does the same in China, bullet through the head. We don't need to educate these people though. One day a US soldier will run him over with a car and his family won't be able to even touch him.

Why are the Chinese people so angry with the USA?

Didn't the USA help save you from the Japanese in the WW-2? What happened just 5 years later?

That's a very interesting question. It remains a fact that the current ally of Japan was once Chinese protector and single handedly won them the war.

Now when Chinese can remember the attrocities commited by Japan then how come they have so easily forgotten all the help/favour extended by US?
