India’s Quiet Counter-China Strategy

Why are the Chinese people so angry with the USA?

Didn't the USA help save you from the Japanese in the WW-2? What happened just 5 years later?

It is a complex relationship. Even today, they are our largest trading partner.

They helped us with Japan (though not out of charity, it was due to Pearl harbor) and they forced Japan to have a "pacifist" constitution. Both good actions.

But then they supported the losing side (KMT) during the Chinese civil war, and we later had a head-on collision during the Korean war... where China faced off directly against the US and its allies.

Then China and the USA became allies again... during the Cold war, in order to bring down the Soviet union.

Today, we have the world's biggest economic relationship, and even talk of a "G2".

It is all realpolitik. When our interests align we will work together, and vice versa.

That's a very interesting question. It remains a fact that the current ally of Japan was once Chinese protector and single handedly won them the war.

Now when Chinese can remember the attrocities commited by Japan then how come they have so easily forgotten all the help/favour extended by US?

Welcome to reality. In politics, there's no such thing as permanent friends or enemies, there's only permanent interests. Winston Churchill. This is especially true of big power politics like the ones played out between China and US.

US helped us in WW2 out of its own interests not because they wanted to help Chinese people. Otherwise, why did they delay going to war for 4 years after Japanese had already massacred tens of millions?

US then helped the KMT which lost, then prevented China from retaking Taiwan by eliminating the KMT, then went head to head with us in Korea. Then we went head to head again in Vietnam and even today they're sanctioning us. An Apple computer used to be on the list of sanctioned items to China.

Russia is even another more extreme case. They stole 1 million KM2 of land in the 19th century, but helped us rebuild in the 50's and saved us at least 30 years of development time. Then they forced us to pay our debts in grain and withdrew aid in the 60's, and then threatened to nuke us in the 70's.

As you can see, there's only mutual interests in politics between major powers.

Cool. So you see that you had no issues in going against the USA which saved millions of Chinese lives in WW-2 (even if it was also in their interest).

Why would you call any other country trying to secure its interests "Mafia"?

You were communists in the 1970s and went against the USSR with the capitalist USA. Ideology never seemed to play a part.

Fine by me. Every country tries to secure its interests in whatever way it sees fit.

I will tell you guys something, blunt, but it has to be said. The day China stops propping up Pakistan against India, India-China relationship will improve. As simple as that really:undecided:

I can't agree with you there as the same can be said about India's relationship with America, Japan, South Korea and Russia etc.
Pakistan is a close and dependable friend of China and we regard them as brothers and sisters. Our relations cannot be used as bargainig chips. It is as simple as that.

:disagree: China will not stop supporting Pakistan, but China could try to defuse the hatred between Pakistan and India.
China can not betray allies. That is not consistent with the principles of Chinese diplomacy.

Diplomatic relations between China and India to improve, it is only by strengthening trade relations. Only trade can influence the Chinese Govt.

^^ Frankly China has no role to play between India and Pakistan.

Same as we have no role to play between you and Taiwan.

Umm yeah like giving them nuclear weapons, ballistic missiles and protecting terrorists

What did you really expect from a rival? :azn:

All I can say, is that the trouble between China and India all started in 1959.

All the tension was sourced from that point, when India pushed China, and got a reaction that it didn't like. All the things you mentioned, happened after 1959. Cause and effect.
