India’s bid for permanent UNSC seat falters

HAHA....Ummah for Christ's sake!!

I used to be a part of the Christian ethos and belief.

My apologies!

Notwithstanding, I still await the answer on the Ummah!

Does it differentiate between Arabs and Blacks, Pakistanis and Indonesians etc?

Ummah (Arabic: أمة) is an Arabic word meaning Community or Nation. It is commonly used to mean either the collective nation of states, or (in the context of pan-Arabism) the whole Arab world. In the context of Islam, the word ummah is used to mean the diaspora or "Community of the Believers" (ummat al-mu'minin), and thus the whole Muslim world.

If what you say is right, then the concept of Ummah is artificial and false!

Too much of flip flop of convenience!

Incidentally when was Pakistan's GDP growht rate >9% ? Can some one please enlighten me.

"The final estimate for 2004-05 has also been
revised upward to 9.0 percent as against the revised estimate of 8.6 percent for the year. Thus, over the
last four years the real GDP has grown at an average rate of 7.5 percent per annum."

So actually it has been average of 7.5% in last 4 years and not 3. You can find this and much more in next link in page 4.

These concepts only thrive in environments where people are not struggling to survive (there is prosperity) the problem with most of Africa is that most people are struggling to keep their "tribe" be it black/arab or whatever alive with the limited resources. Community in a larger sense go's straight out of the window in these circumstances. If there was a an evenness you would find the idea of Ummah more popular.

I totally agree with you.

Why Africa? It is everywhere.

Our nationalities and it's ethos and culture are what guides us.

We are nations and peoples first.

How can religion wash away our singularities as peoples and nations?

Is an Italian Christian same as an American one with the same concept of life and a nation?

Is the Indian Hindu same as the Balinese Hindu with the same concept of life and a nation?

Is the Nepali Buddhist same as the Thai Buddhist with the same concept of life and a nation?

NO.

Therefore, what is the commonality, apart from religion, between an Arab and an Indonesian?

And yet, everyone talks of the Ummah!

If indeed Ummah was such a strong force, then the Islamic world would have united long back!

Yet., all want to live in a dream world!

And the best part is Moslem fight Moslems and want the Shias to be declared as kaffirs as the Pakistani Parliamentarian wants (I don't remember his name)!

Islam requires to identify what is achievable and what is not and then go ahead. Day dreaming at the behest of the Mullah won't work!

If Islam is to be strong,it has to work in unison and right now,it is not. It is interested in only the age old power struggle!

See Iraq.

It is just a power struggle between the Shias and the Sunnis. And guess who is the winner?

Do you really consider GoP data bullcrap to those of international agencies? Do you have any idea how the international agencies get their data from?

Or is it that you refute?

How does it matter if Pakistan is greater or not.

Let anyone believe what he wants. I would not question one's belief.

What matters is that what the world thinks.

Right now, investments are going India and China's way and money is what will make the difference.

Even the greatest power on Earth is participating in Ex Himalayas and at the same time is training its troops in India's CIJW School. That should be adequate as an answer to what one is worth!

Let activities on the ground speak and not mere boasts!

Ok one thing is starting to bug me a bit when people claim that Americans go to India to learn about jungle counter insurgency  seriously have you people heard of Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos? The British run jungle warfare schools in Borneo or Belize ? The French operated centres in French Guyana? As for mountain and extreme weather there are the alps, the Rockies and the north of Scandinavia for mountains.
I have been on courses in former eastern European countries and in central America.....guess what we didn't go to learn from them but to learn from lessons from previous experience.

Sorry to burst your bubble there.

I am still interested to see Pakistan's growth rate in 2005, i dont think it has EVER reached 9% let alone in 2005. And this guy shan, it seems he cannot find any other link other than a GoP forecast so he started on PCI.

I OTOH can give proof, here:
http://devdata.worldbank.org/external/CPProfile.asp?PTYPE=CP&CCODE=PAK

Shows Pak growth rate was 7.3 % and inflation even higher 8.7% in 2005.

What is it with Pakistani's and their desire to show superiority over India in every aspect !! I mean come on, you didnt manage the growth you wanted, so what? anything greater than 7% is damn good. But no, India managed 'this' so they have to have something higher.

IMF is putting Pak GDP higher and WB lower then Pak official data. Which one to belive? I think Pak gov will have better idea about Pak economy.
