India’s bid for permanent UNSC seat falters

Ok one thing is starting to bug me a bit when people claim that Americans go to India to learn about jungle counter insurgency  seriously have you people heard of Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos? The British run jungle warfare schools in Borneo or Belize ? The French operated centres in French Guyana? As for mountain and extreme weather there are the alps, the Rockies and the north of Scandinavia for mountains.
I have been on courses in former eastern European countries and in central America.....guess what we didn't go to learn from them but to learn from lessons from previous experience.

Sorry to burst your bubble there.

It is not only Jungle Warfare.

It is also COUNTER INSURGENCY!

Iraq rings bell?

Afghanistan rings a bell?

As far as mountains and its weather, there is nothing to match the Himalayas!

The Americans claim that they are the last word in everything in the world and if they come to India to learn, obviously they have not seen the last thing in the world!

Sorry to burst everything!

Why don't you try the Siachen in addition to wherever you have gone!

I have been there and I assure you it was not pleasant!

^ To my knowledge it did hit 8% growth rate. Hitting 9% or 10% or 13% dont matter, as long as it makes the point.

Im aware that it hit 8% as well. That was once, a couple of years back, if i remember correctly, it was 8.4% that time and the only time. Otherwise the Pak economy is doing very well indeed. But i get irritated when some people come up and talk crap and shoot out any stat they think should happen as what has happened.

That 8.4% was revised to 9% see Pak gov link. Don't get irritated its just 0.6% more :enjoy:

Like i said, give me the link(you know which type), i have seen enough people scream this to know what the truth is.

How does it matter if Pakistan is greater or not.

Let anyone believe what he wants. I would not question one's belief.

What matters is that what the world thinks.

Right now, investments are going India and China's way and money is what will make the difference.

Even the greatest power on Earth is participating in Ex Himalayas and at the same time is training its troops in India's CIJW School. That should be adequate as an answer to what one is worth!

Let activities on the ground speak and not mere boasts!

Why u guys always want to bring China with India's name? China's FDI is at least 5 times more then India. Pak FDI for 2006-07 was $7 billion, hardly a small amount.

Because India is one of the the few asian countries which can hope to match china in the future.

On what basis? Population is the only thing in which India will match soon enough to China's and beat it.

Well...thats your opinion. If India continues to grow at current rates, it can give China some serious competition.

 yes it does ring a bell and what can India teach the British and Americans about Iraq and Afghanistan from it's vast experience of successes against counterinsurgencies?

I knew you would pull out the saichen glacier  but lets be honest here 1) how many extreme altitude battle fields are there? 2)there have been hundreds of military expeditions to high altitude regions in the world do you think they have forgotten how to operate there? Sorry but just because you have been up a mountain don't assume that others haven't ;) I have been up lots of mountains of that nature and have done courses in the arctic so I know altitude and cold. And there are plenty of others a hell of a lot more experienced than me. And believe me if the Americans wanted to learn there are plenty of places they can go.....I'm sure the Indian army is fairly low on the list sorry but thats the truth. Last time this came up I asked a officer I know on the training wing about it. His reply was "Why the f**k would they do that?"
If you want to pad your ego by thinking that the U.S. has come to learn from you guys you go right ahead. I know the reality first hand.

Even India's current rate is lower then China's current rate by good 3% and remember their economy is already 3 times bigger then urs.

So they were training in India just to get the Indian army some good press?

I wouldn't know.

Ask the British and the Americans.

They must be plumb stupid to come to India and waste their time!

India has pulled out of the Siachen Glacier? That is news to me.

How many exteme altitude battles are there? Ask Musharraf. He was there! if I told you, you would not believe it, so why should I try? I hope you beleive in Musharraf! Or are you the BB and NS man?

Sweetheart, expeditions and high altitude warfare and prolonged stay are different kettles of fish. Since you don't even know that, it is better left unsaid!

Arctic? Temperature please and also the physical degradation of high altitude may please be taken into account! Come, copme, I am not impressed.

I require nothing to pad my ego. If someone else does it for me, so be it, old bean!

In fact, you are right that the American could go to anywhere to learn. Ideal would be FATA and NWFP. After all, that is where the problem starts! I wonder what prevent them!

Silly of them to use drones and missiles there!

Its a political motive. The troops train together to "form ties" etc etc lots of pictures of officers shaking hands etc etc And a few co-operational "training exercises" It's basically a PR thing. similar tho the sino-pak exercise that you can see in the gallery. It doesn't mean the Chinese came to learn from the PAK army.
