So when is CCP planing to reverse its One child policy ?
If Chinese people had their way..this policy would never been introduced..but unfortunately in China public opinion has never mattered much.

Actually the CCP is deadly afraid of public opinion. That is why they try to stop it or actually do what the public wants.

Well, public opinion matters for one critical thing: value of exports to swiss banks. and in that, India is always #1.

As someone familiar with India can you explain how a younger demographics in the next say 20 years is going to be beneficial to India? There are so many roadblocks in the way

1. Infrastructure - The current infrastructure in India is already strained and will continue to be so especially with more and more users from the population boom.
2. Food - Food is already an issue around the world, and increasing floods don't make the issue any better.
3. Job Security - It appears everyone seems to assume once China's population goes down the manufacturing base will immediately shift to India. Who is going to shift the jobs there? The Americans and Europeans have already been tapped dry of cash with majority of the worlds funds being held by China, will China shift the manufacturing jobs to India and cause instability in her own country not sure about that.

If India population goes unchecked and fails to deliver on any of the above points its just a recipe for anarchy. Lets bear in mind that resources around the world are stretched beyond belief and Oil prices are settling at 90 - 100 dollars on average these days, it will be a question if any country can even build an infrastructure with oil at 200 per barrel in the future.

While I personally have no problem with the assesment that India may over take China eventually I am baffled by the amount of attention endowed by the media. This is like yelling "I am gonna beat you, I am gonna beat you" in a kayaking race while the other guy is rowing in silence.

Public opinion matters a lot in China.

Do you think it is just a coincidence that the Chinese government has the highest approval ratings of any government in the entire world?

Chinese satisfied with government - Washington Times

Secondly, the CPC has an overwhelming interest in maintaining economic growth. Demographics are of course a factor in economic growth.

Yes it is just coincidence..because at this point in time everything in china gung ho..True reflection of govt's response to public opinion is when things are not so good.
eg. Did people of China wanted a one child policy imposed on them?
But yet it was.

Chinese population is rapidly aging..so if govt of China wanted to really reverse this policy before its economic growth starts to decline ..they would have done it already..because it will take another 20-25 odd yrs before working population age to start decreasing after the reversal of its policy.

You can always reverse the one-child policy. As a matter of fact it is already taking place in big cities like Shanghai, where single child couples are allowed to have two kids.

I never really liked the one-child policy but considering the alternative (rampant overpopulation) I'd say it is one of the best choices that the CCP made in the past 50 years or so.

If you think public opinion has no impact on public policy in China, you are mistaken. Just look up Green Dam Youth Escort for one small example.

Did the Indians have a choice when your own politicians stole more than a trillion dollars from you and hid them in Swiss bank accounts? (I probably shouldn't criticize Sonia Gandhi though, in case I am forced to travel to India some day.) Did the Indian public get a choice when Nehru launched his forward policy against China? The Nehru-Gandhi dynasty, and the corrupt politicians, are the true decision makers in India.

On your point, as you yourself acknowledge, demographic changes take decades. So the CPC has plenty of time to make a decision on the one-Child policy, no point in jumping the gun with such an important decision.

About one child policy.
2001, Chinese grassroots officials have a lot of mistakes on family planning. Yes, Some people forced abortion of pregnant women.
2010, Such incidents do not happen again.
It allows the second child, Because we have the ability to feed more people now. And if the birth of a third child, No one will force miscarriage, But it will be fine.
New policy of family planning:
¼Æ»®ÉúÓý¶þÌ¥ÐÂÕþ²ß_°Ù¶ÈÖªµÀ

Chinese is not the devil. We also do not want to limit fertility.
But the reality is cruel. Sometimes, we need to know how to give up.
We sacrificed 9 years for family planning. We are also very sad, but no regrets.

With the growing Chinese economy, Family planning policy will be phased out.

If you think 1 child policy actually means anything: my friends are mostly born in 89-92. my cousins were born in 80-85. i am the only single child. what 1 child policy actually means, is people having 1-2 children instead of 9.

Correct. It is becoming too expensive to raise to many kids any ways. Birth rates in many European countries are quite low because of the high cost of child rearing. Many of the Chinese post-docs working abroad aren't having any kids either (which is a great loss).

let's not talk about selective breeding and social engineering. very risky for a society like china. but it may work wonders for india.

This is a direct result of elitist entitlement mentality, better known as superiority complex. China's continuing success challenges the beliefs of those who use those beliefs as a self-endowed privilege to lecture and/or belittle others. The dynamic is very similar to how a teacher with years of experience has a student who does things completely opposite of what the teacher is trying to teach them, yet succeeds despite the warnings of the teacher. This makes the teacher look bad in front of all the other students and causes the teacher to lose authority. This is the conundrum faced by all the brow beating journalists and free-press (but not free-THINKing) media who have been beating various mantras for years that China demolishes with its glaring success. That's why you see free press (but not free-THINKing) media do the 24/7 unconstructive criticism. Twenty years ago, it might have been well meaning constructive criticism. However, today it's a blatant hidden wish that China has a bloody revolution, so they can be proved right and their superiority complex doesn't become an inferiority complex like it unfortunately has become in India's upper classes.

Should change to while the other guy is almost at the end.
