Modernization and upgrades of Mirages and MIG 29 has certainly helped the IAF to an extent but if MMRCA is further delayed till say after elections next year then squadron strength is bound to come down

Buy 3 squadron of Mig 35. They are cheaper than mirage upgrades and lots of new technologies shall be transferred by Russians.

India is reducing reliance solely on Russian arms so if deal is cancelled altogether then MIG 35 could be considered

I have to admire and respect Indian for their richness. $2.4 billions for upgrading 49 used Jets. It's about $ 48 millions each.
Owner's pride, neighbor's envy!

According to recent media reports , first IAF Mirage-2000H upgraded to Dash 5 standards recently had its first flight in France , Mirage 2000s has been the backbone of Indian Air Force since decades. The French multirole, single-engine fourth-generation jet fighter manufactured by French-based Company Dassault Aviation was inducted in Indian Air Force in 1980s.

The upgraded version of Indian Air Force’s Mirage 2000H made its first flight at Istres-Le Tube air base in France, on Sunday. Forty-nine Mirage 2000H aircraft are being upgraded to Mirage 2000-5 Mk2 in the course of next seven years.India has paid USD 2.4 billion to upgrade its 49 jets.

As part of the USD 2.4 billion, the upgrades of Mirage 2000 fighter jet would include-
1- New avionics, including an advanced navigation system, mission computers, Mil 1553 B data with Digibus, a pulse doppler radar that can find objects out to 70 nautical miles.
2-Two displays and an advanced head-down display in a glass cockpit.
3- Electronic warfare systems, including new radar warning receivers with instantaneous wide-bank receivers, an integrated missile warning receiver with continuous time-to-impact information, and new jammers and countermeasure systems.
4- Increased fuel capacity
5- Four Derby beyond-visual-range missiles
6- Two short-to-medium-range Python V missiles
7- Long-range smart munitions
8- Full mission simulators

The upgrades are over priced big time.

The IAF would have been better off buying more sukhois. The Rafale is coming anyways, and its already superior to the mirage.

Mirage pilots @Armee_de_lair

i was also thinking same,,our corrupt ministers and IAF top brass would have made some hard cash, dats why

They sure did,let me tell u more.
Even after paying this much the engines are same,no change meaning these jets have tops 10-12 years more service life.

And we paid over 40 million per plane, damn

Everyone knows this.just wait for the mirage 2000 scam to emerge sometime in future.

There are Qatari airframes with lesser hours on them, some french.. perhaps 80 is possible.
Qatari airframes are going to Egypt.

About 150 Mirage-2000s from France is possible along with some more from South America and the Taiwan which might go for a mix of EF-2000s and Rafael as US are not supporting them in any way.

Also they might also sell back F-16s to other countries.

Although Possibility is there that both Qatar and Egypt might sold Mirage-2000s and buys JF-17s.
