How the Shah Entangled America

It's practically impossible to know.

But let's not forget

Shah started this nuclear program, because he wanted Iran to become nuclear.

Israel would've lobbied for sanctions because Israel doesn't want to lose the Nuclear monopoly in the Middle East.

So the nuclear issue would've been the same.

Nuclear energy holds little strategic importance for a country as Iran, so even though the nuclear issue may still have been there, I doubt the Shah would drag it this far.

@iranigirl2 is mainly re-iterating history, nothing unfair or untrue about it.

Oh history becomes unfair when both sides are not narrated side by side. Shah had great ideas but he was trying to make Iran a European state for the elite which was not possible.

true to some extent. Iran is more democratic than some arab gulf countries allied to the US, but Iran's very rigid as well. They have to have some relations with the west.

Every country is not Pakistan. Where we become servants of the superpower instead of standing up for our rights.

Some people respect them because they are standing in front of a hyper power and its allies. Respect their stand, but they must a bit flexible.

I believe Roohani govt has been elected on that very promise.

As far as Shah was concerned, he did become a bit independent. Refused to decrease oil prices.

@Esfand

All you have to do,what Iran would look like today had Shah not been removed from power is to study WHY Iranians removed him to begin with.

As imperfect as the Shah was, I'd rather have him in power than the mullahs.

Shah made many mistakes throughout his life, but buying American weapons wasn't one of them.

It was ( in it's time not taking the unexpected imposed war into consideration ) . The money he earned in those years could make Iran a developed country , a power in every single field in Asia but he preferred those expensive American weapons and wasting poor people's money on western bankrupted companies etc .

You should forget the importance of those weapons after the revolution and see his decision in his age .
