How Pakistan is quietly turning water into a weapon against India

Indeed. IWT is the worlds most generous water treaty. To think that we were generous to the Pakistanis...and for what?

We pay the price of Nehru's idealism.

That said, we also reap the benefits of Nehru's idealism in other ways. We got both good and bad parts continuing because of decisions made in those early years of Independence.

there is a big loop hole in Indus River Water treaty. It allows for local use of water by Jammu and Kashmir.
shift 40-50 million people into the valley. the water to pakistan will decline.

Pakistan knows that we control their jugular vein. Being lower riparian they will always feel threatened. We can always play the water card as the last resort. Now is not the time. They are suffering as it is with their internal wars for past few decades. No need to stir the pot when they are mired with their own problems.

Really we are? Economic indicators says our growth has been at its fastest in more than 8 years.

Our stock exchange is currently No .1 in terms of returns in Asia. And we just got MCSI emerging country upgradation. As for wars zarb e azb has broken the camels back . Maybe you should check out stats for a change? Or maybe worry about like 10 insurgencies in your own backyard like naxalites which are a thorn in your armies back?

you should try it sometime then you will find out what a water deprived person can do to someone holding a bottle of cold water.

Ambani should first buy food to 43% of indian who can only afford a fist full of boiled rice a day, then he should provide a place to shit to 80% Indian and only after that if he has any left over he can buy a purchoon store in Karachi

most of the Indus river system waters, without any quid pro quo. The Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) reserved for India just 19.48% of the total waters of the six-river Indus system.
This must be the most lopsided treaty, we are not even getting 1/3 of the share. probably treaty must be re-looked to make it a fair & just treaty for both the parties.

Ability of India to divert Indus waters is zero
India should build maximum number of dams for hydroelectric power generation

The treaty cant be amended without the consent of both the parties.
Why would Pakistan allow it?

@ashok321 I hope you realize the bias in the article you posted... even without a link, please edit that into the post.

The situation in India, is caused by the State itself. The inability, unwillingness to introduce better water management, drought-resistant crops, lessen the wastage of water, over-reliance of monsoons aren't the cause from Pakistan. Even your own are saying water needs to be handled by the federal government not state.

Don't worry, Pakistan is not different either, piss poor planning for the future on both sides of the border.

There will be a lot of pressure on India to maintain the treaty.
