How do Bangladeshis view 1965 war?

@Secur - If you weren't of East-Pakistani descent I wanted to give some Bangladeshis here a piece of my mind ! :pissed:

Woh tou Uncle key wajaaa seh mein chup kar jataa huuun !

@ "Ham log ab tu Bharat ke punje me agei, ish punje se bahar nikanle na bari mushkil hai- ham chale app ko chur kar, fir najane kab mulakat ho gi, app lok abhi afganistan dakhel karle, fir Kashmir !".

. .
It was a brilliant indian tactic not to attack east but at the same time making bengalis realise they were class 2.

Get over it people, we don't need their "feelers" for anything, if they didn'thave any feelings for sacrifices and efforts of 1947, who gives a dime about 1965?

1965 war was a great achievement by Pakistan who successfully repelled an invading force at an unprecedented 3:1 ratio.

How did Bangladeshis view this at the time? Is it something of value or deemed not relevant because it no longer applies to a sovereign Bangladesh? I would be interested to find out.

Incorrect. Apart from the Punjabi Muslims, the Bangladeshi Muslims did more than the rest of the 'Pakistanis' for the creation of Pakistan. Right after Direct Action Day was declared, Bengali and Bihari Muslims lit the first fires for Pakistan, slaying thousands of Hindus in Calcutta and Noakhali in 1946. The Partition riots were started in Bengal first. Thousands of Hindu villages were emptied out in no time. They had more contribution than an average Pakistani to the creation of Pakistan.

Feel free. I have no emotional attachment with Bangladesh. Yes my father came from that land but well that's it. But please remember to recognize your mistakes too, don't take an unrealistic and contrary to facts view of the whole situation back then.

My mistakes ? :o:

I wasn't even born then ! :pissed:

We believe that the Indians took advantage of a country in throes of a civil war, that a segment of the Bengali intelligentsia was being funded and cultivated by them, that the defense of the East lies in the West was born out of economic and operational necessity not something nefarious and that the Mukhti Bahini were responsible for wanton slaughter of West-Pakistanis, Pro-Pakistan Bengalis and Biharis !

The Bangladeshis and Indians believe that Pakistan had denied East-Pakistan and East-Pakistanis their legitimate economic rights, had deprived them of their right to form a government at the center, had instigated mass crackdown that resulted in gross human rights abuses against the Bengalis and treated the average Bengali with contempt and suspicion.

What do I think really happened ? I think the truth is somewhere in between these claims and counterclaims. I think that all of the above happened in varying degrees and I find hagiographic accounts of history where one is painted as the proverbial knights in shinning armor and the other as evil incarnate are exactly that - hagiographic !

What I have a problem with are those Pakistanis who have mistaken self-depreciation for self-criticism and parroting someone else's rhetoric for careful introspection !

Lol, I'm sure, being an educated person, you know that it was the other way around in Kolkata. Or try paying a visit to your nearest university library in Kolkata.

Noakhali was in response to the Kolkata massacre. Having said that, I don't want to fight over "who killed more". Both sides did wrong, and it's a terrible chapter in Bengal's history that should never repeat. We're generally more tolerant of other religions/minorities, compared to other ethnic groups in the subcontinent.

Bangal is a derogatory term used by W Bengalis referring to E Bengalis. It is just like calling Pakistanis ****.

Hold it there..derogatory how ? I am hearing this for the first time.
We have many people here who migrated from East Bengal, and they identify themselves as Bangal only. That's not something like Muhajir in Pakistan.
@Maira La You opinion on this ?

Well I wouldn't know. It's more of a WB thing, right? I heard WBs call EB origin people Bangal, and the Bangals call them Ghoti. Don't know if it's meant to be derogatory.

I have heard people in West Bengal use these terms in usual conversations, I don't believe they mean something derogatory.

I think there must be some East Pakistanis of that time serving and fighting in West Pakistan?

I have heard some stories about PAF pilots from East Pakistan?

Good job on the front with West Pakistan, really bad job on defending East Pakistan. Thankfully there was no huge battle on our side.

.
bangal term is not derogatory.Well in Tripura here people speak two types of benglai ...mostly people speak what we call khash bangla and hence are called bangals meaning ancestors from bd , there are bengalis who speak what we call kelu bengali and many of them are from wb and are called ghoti .
