That is why the only safe sources for kids entertainment are cartoons & the last thing we want to to do is ruin it as well? that is why its is a highly commendable move to ban all those channels which are deemed as necessary to save children from being exposed to such obscenity & if you are fine with it then there is no need to argue as the channels have been or will be ban in Pakistan & not in India. Secondly you should keep an open perspective, my concern is the lingo not the their mythological context. even if Johhny bravo are in English you don't have to spice things up to make kids understand each & every thing by using their vulgar synonyms in hindi.

Peregrine, As I said this is something different from what we are discussing in this thread. We are discussing about mythological serials which are banned and not the other cartoons like Chhota Bheem, Johnny Bravo or Shinchan (All of them are not religious/mythological).

Regarding your point, They are valid there are many translators are using spicy lingo for such cartoons which need to be moderated.

why its a different issue??? the matter at hand is to protect children not these politicians who commit all social ills

If you see title then all Mythological cartoons have been asked to stop and not all Indian cartoons or hindi translated English and Japanese cartoons.

There are plenty of shows on Islam on TV, and there are plenty of Islamic influences around children in Muslim households - parents, relatives, most friends at school, the mosque, Quran classes etc.

To argue that a TV series meant to entertain is somehow going to overshadow all of the other influences is really reflective of how weak some peoples faith is.

Even if the objective of the cartoons was to promote a particular religion, then so what? There is nothing stopping people interested in promoting Islam to come up with cartoons promoting Islam. Pakistan has a Hindu population as well, it isn't just a country of Muslims, and perhaps those parents want their kids to watch these cartoons? Who are Muslims to veto the right of Hindus to watch Hinduism based programming? Why can't Muslim parents change the channel these cartoons appear on, or block it?

These kinds of attitudes are precisely what I argued would lead down a slippery slope to restrictions on any faith/sect/belief, that a particular majority does not agree with.

I mean look at how many restrictions on the faith of others the State of Pakistan has imposed - Ahmadi's cannot call themselves what they believe they are, they cannot call their places of worship what they wish to, and now Hindus can't watch programming related to their religion if they wish to. keep going down this road and Shia won't be able to call themselves Muslim and any programming related to the Shia school of thought will be banned.

The proposed ban and those defending it reek of intolerance and a desire to censor anything on the basis of it not agreeing with their own beliefs.

People do not means the kids :) i have no issue with grown ups if they watch any crap as they are wise enough to understand things but in case of Kids i say NO religion based Cartoon if you have to intoxicate them with religion then why NOT to preach them instead of hiding behind this excuse of entertainment.

They are kids please give them some entertainment as NOT religious teaching in cartoons atleast. for that they have schools, books and elders to teach them religion.

going through your above post it sounds as if these characters scream & shout saying they are hindus. your point is valid, if they are preaching relegion through these cartoons, which i doubt very much.

the Punjab Gov freaks have inability to control the freaking Mullahs which are brains washing this nation with sectarian hatred BUT hey let stop these cartoons, They look freaking Kafir....

If faith of some people can get dented by simple cartoons then they need to look at those themselves because that ain't FAITH, This only shows how insecure people are regarding their faith

.
there is no religios teaching there. and even if it is, what is difference b/w religious teaching in schools/books and TV.

Ban it in schools/ books also then or dont act like fools by banning on TV.

Also prove that there is harmful affect on kids from seeing cartoons on mythological characters. There is no such proof but pure ignorance and intolerance that is the basis cause of asking for this ban.

Schools are suppose to be for teaching entertainment is something altogether a different thing.

I say ban any religious cartoon for kids simple and straight.

BTW when India is going to have some cartoons on Jesus promoting Christianity?

That is a recipe for disaster since the controversy over these cartoons also illustrates that people have disagreements over whether the cartoons are religious or not. Then people will start complaining over all sorts of TV shows claiming they are 'religious' in nature and their kids watch them.

Instead of arbitrary bans, and limiting choices for people, people can use that 'magical device descended from the heavens' called the 'TV/Cable remote' to, prepare for this, it might shock you, CHANGE THE FREAKIN CHANNEL!

Bollywood to make Jesus movie

Bollywood to make Jesus movie: News24: Entertainment: International
Jerusalem - Indian filmmakers say they're in the Holy Land to shoot the first Bollywood movie on the early life of Jesus.

Director Singeetham Srinivasa Rao says his production will have an all-Indian cast of child actors, featuring seven devotional songs.

Producer Konda Krishnam Raju said at a news conference on Tuesday that the film focuses on the childhood of Jesus, a contrast with other movies that depict his later years.

"This is the first presentation of this type in Bollywood history," he added.

At $30m, the filmmakers say it's one of India's highest budget movies. An average Indian movie costs about $500 000.

Aditya Productions plans to release the movie next year.

Christians in India number 24 million, or about 2.3% of the population.

This is not calling for restriction on faith. If they want to start such religious teachings then they can start a program properly on that.

Making cartoons for promoting religion in the name of entertainment that too for kids in itself is a wrong step that can lead to making of similar cartoon characters used by hardliners targeting kids simple as that.

There should be difference between entertainment for kids and preaching ideology in the name of entertainment for kids be it hindu or any other.

If its entertainment then why not simple innocent cartoons like Tom and Jerry why to promote any hunuman or Kali mata and so on.

Its simple not entertainment.

I support banning it altogether. if any Pakistani Muslim wants to teach his kid how to bow before hunuman then he/she has many options to record it from dish antenna TV and show his kids repeatedly

^Preaching of religion is allowed in India. One of the most celebrate personality of my city(which gave birth to many celebrated personalities) was a Christian missionary, Mother Teresa.

I have been promoting that device from the post 1

A religious cartoon is the one which preaches religion.. Others qualify as cartoons based on mythical characters as in this case.

Some are arguing as if its a program which encourages to convert.

Its for kids. They like something of cartoonish whether its based on mythology, cats and rats , dinosaurs, scooby dooes or Japanese fighting ones.

Like I said, what constitutes childrens' programming and what constitutes 'religious' programming is subjective. Some people will find issues with shows that others do not.

Lots of kids watch Islamic shows meant for adults, in many cases because their parents make them. If we are to try and restrict religious programming for kids, we should ban all religious programs, including the ones on Ramazan and those by scholars like Amir Liaquat and Ghamidi etc. Make all TV completely secular then, to even the playing field.
