Yes, Muslims spent more time fighting each other that made them weak to fight off the British advance. However, they fought. There were many small power pockets (Marhatas, rajputs etc.) in sub continent that revolted against the Mughals. Britishers used them and fought Muslims. However, Muslims resisted British advance unlike Hindus who welcomed it. Hindus decided not to fight Britishers and be friend with them. Who does that?

In the 1857 revolt the Mughal Emperor was a figurehead. There was a reason the British exiled him to Rangoon and let him rot there. A lot of the other leaders were hanged or blown off a cannon
