it seems like symbolic gestures is very important to the ones that demand this. Let's hope it does not turn violent like it eventually does. where in Bangladesh we see that it is not enough that the religion gets special status, now it is important that others be killed via blasphemy laws.

I guess one can say we are lucky that you don't have citizens of every religion or non religion demanding such from countries they have migrated to. I think there is a fundamental disrespect showed towards the host country , its founding principles, its constitution and culture, when you make such demands. they are not asking for religious freedom for all...they want special status built into the nation's fiber.

Germany doesn't have the same laws you recently applied to the Blacks. If there is a significant numbers of people willing to take a day off once or twice a year, its hardly a problem.

In India we have holidays for Diwali, Holi, bakri id, ramazan id, and christmas and good friday, while rest are in names of leaders or country

Hannukah and Passover aren't official Federal holidays but people are given day off if requested and these are holidays in which schools have a day off for Hannukah.

Origin dont matter but citizenship matter . If you have British nationality then you hold same rights as those of white British irrespective of where your parent/ancestor migrated from

Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are not holidays in the US. Neither is Passover. The only religious holiday in the US is Easter and Christmas.

A colleague of mine was off for Passover. Ver important holiday for the Jews.

Muslim need to first grow into as influential a position as Jews in America before they make such demands.. Jews in America are generally seen very positively which is not the case with Muslims..

But I have not seen any Jewish holiday yet in America..

Holidays in the US are observed differently, since there are a lot that overlap usually people are given a week long break and it overlaps over a few holidays. Like the spring break just passed and it overlapped both Passover and Easter. For Muslims they cannot do the same thing because the date is different each year but once everyone knows Muslims celebrating on some specific day they give them off from school, work, etc.

Germany does not take religious census so how you get that number??
