French Avionics for JF-17

Such costly avionics would defeat the purpose of an economic plane. Instead of spending so much on JF, this money should go to J10s. They too will be having Chinese avionics. If PAF has doubts about Chinese avionics, they should get french for their future lead AC.

What i beleive is that we will be having both, the low cost ones and the hight cost ones. We certainly do require some high end JF-17s havind western avionics even if the cost becomes high....The ones with chinese avionics are more for export and for filling the role of the aging aircrafts in PAFs fleet.

There were sanctions on us and this was why, former air chief Muhsaf Ali Mir (shaheed) went for brilliant strategy of decoupling the avionics from the airframe as we have seen benefits of it in recent years otherwise we would have had same issues that Indians are facing right now in LCA in shape of avionics obsolescence. We had more options to exercise once the sanctions were lifted from European countries such Italy, France and even Britain (APG-66H Blue Hawk offer). What PAF did was to create an opportunity for all contenders and presented their requirements for jf-17 systems form radar to weapon systems and allowed all to come up with their offers. Britain pulled of early and remained the French, Italian and Chinese. Chinese desperately wanted to win the offer hence they proposed the offer that was discussed in previous thread. I believe if they can do it once, they can do it again. The French will be under pressure by the Chinese for this offer and this scenario will benefit Pakistan. Remember the MAESTRO package was repeatedly negotiated by PAF on price and eventually the price fell dramatically from the original $40 million to the eventual $22 million.

well Mr. Sarkozy is due to visit Pakistan in Feb/March-2010, and if the offer is not finalised by that time, its chinese systems till someone comes up with another offer. my gut feeling is that the french offer will come through!

It has to, french are in need of good defence orders, as lately they have been not receiving business as the way they used to.

The french firm ATE Systems specializes in weapon, avionics and sensor integration. This is likely form PAF is interested in contracting. There could be many possibilities in the future. I also heard that RC-400 is still the likely radar. Some details regarding the ATE Systems.

The reason for such high cost is that Pakistan is interested in top of the line technology from french which includes all newly developed technologies. The French are desperate for a sale here and there is little chance they will let go such an order as Taimi Khan mentioned earlier. Some items including PAJ FA DRFM pod, SPECTRA, some sort of active protection measure (your guess is as good as mine), Damocles pod, and some undisclosed items.

30 million? Did you even exclude systems costs that will be replaced!? and lol. Do you know if ever LCA is inducted in IAF the MKIII version with AESA how much it will cost?

Have we not kept Mr. Zardari busy to save his seat from the last 3 months or so? So the money that would have gone to his corruption account is thankfully saved and we are upgrading avionics.

No matter how hard time we faced, we always managed to support our nuclear, missile and defense projects. This is blessing of God Almighty. Just thank Him that we are making it and leave the "how" part to be discovered until never.

Hi,

There is nothing wrong in looking for a new engine---the current engine is doing an excellent job---the engine with a higher out put will take it to the next level. Remember the jf 17 is a modular design fighetr aircaft---the limitations and restriction of the russian engine were kept in mind when the plane was designed---

Paf likes the american european engines due to their longevity, reliability and lower cost of maintenance. But on the other hand the russians don't want to loose out on a 1000---1500 engine order in the next ten years time period. Which means that the russians are also working very hard to come up with a better powerplant for this plane to compete with the europeans.

The next thing that the paf is doing is working all its vendors----the chinese---the french and the italians---in a slower defence market---where france has slowed down a lot and italians want to sell more of the equipment, france and italy would go the extra yard to come up with a better package for the 2nd batch of the JF 17's---each and everyone of them is trying real hard to compete against each other to get the piece of the pie---.
