The sudden spurt in COVID-19 cases in Punjab has been given a communal spin, with some in the media and social media blaming Sikh pilgrims returning from Nanded.

ABP News for instance gave the headline ‘Corona vispot’ (explosion) while talking about the Sikh pilgrims from Nanded who had tested positive. The terror vocabulary being used is similar to how COVID-19 patients from Tablighi Jamaat were labelled as ‘Corona Jihad’.

The vilification campaign against Sikh pilgrims is reported to be underway on social media as well.

Unanswered Questions

According to reports, 183 pilgrims who returned from Nanded have tested positive for COVID-19 so far, about one third of the total cases in Punjab. There were around 4000 pilgrims from Punjab stranded at Huzur Sahib gurdwara in Nanded and many of them have been brought back through arrangements made by the Punjab government.

However, there are some unanswered questions. According to details provided by the Maharashtra government, there were only three COVID-19 cases in Nanded district. So how can so many pilgrims coming from Huzur Sahib test positive for COVID-19 after their arrival in Punjab? Does it mean that they were not properly screened in Maharashtra? Or did they contract the infection on the way? There are reports that the buses in which the pilgrims were being brought stopped at Indore, a major COVID-19 hotspot, on the way.

For now, the Punjab government appears to have succeeded to some extent in preventing further spread from the returning pilgrims. But how the pilgrims contracted the infection needs to be looked into.

However, instead of these crucial questions being asked, it is the vilification campaign that appears to have taken over.

‘Conspiracy’ Says Akal Takht Jathedar
The Jathedar of the Akal Takht Giani Harpreet Singh has said that this vilification appears to be a conspiracy to malign minority communities.

“There was a frenzy to vilify the entire Muslim community by citing the case of Tablighi Jamaat, now there is a campaign to present Huzur Sahib as an epicentre of Coronavirus to malign the Sikh community. This is a conspiracy,” the Akal Takht Jathedar said.

He also raised questions on how the pilgrims could test positive in Punjab if they didn’t test positive in Nanded.

“I’m told they were screened thrice and tested negative all the times. Nanded had just two COVID-19 cases. So how can these pilgrims who were in the Gurdwara for the past month or so, suddenly test positive on reaching Punjab?”

Even earlier the chief of the highest temporal body of Sikhs, had warned that COVID-19 is being used to spread hatred against Muslims and Sikhs.

Erm this is the first I'm hearing of any supposed vilification against Sikhs. Perhaps they are pre-empting any attempt at vilification? That's not such a bad idea actually.

In context of the virus?

Has happened earlier as well. Baldev Singh was identified as a "super spreader" and vilified. Luckily for the Sikhs, the Tableeghis stole the show.

Sikh massacre of 1984 happened under congress rule and radical Hindus from all across India took part in it, so what's your point?

Guntur: Deceased coronavirus patient contracted the virus from a Tablighi Jamaati after visiting the same tea stall, spreads the infection to over 50 others

Police tracked the location of mobile phones of the Tablighi Jamaat attendee and the cable operator to establish their presence at the tea stall near the bus stand in Narasaraopet at the same time.

A coronavirus positive cable operator from Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur, who became the sole reason for a massive outbreak of coronavirus cases in Narasaraopet, Guntur, infecting over 50 people of the town, had contracted the virus from a Tablighi Jamaat member.

Guntur Rural SP Ch Vijaya Rao who had formed a special team to investigate how the 45-year-old coronavirus positive cable operator who died on April 10, contracted the virus, revealed that the deceased had contracted the infection from a 54-year-old man of Guntur who attended Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi, reports The New Indian Express.

Cable operator visited same tea stall as the Tablighi Jamaat attendee

According to the report, during the inquiry, it was revealed that 13 persons of Guntur attended Tablighi Jamaat. The seventh among them visited Narasaraopet on March 20 to see his parents, who reside at Shalem Nagar. On his way to his parents’ house, the Delhi returnee had a cup of tea at a stall at the bus stand centre. At the same time, the cable operator also visited the stall and ordered a cup of tea. The duo stayed at the stall for sometime when the cable operator might have contracted the virus from the Delhi returnee.

The cable operator who was a Tuberculosis (TB) patient, got treatment at Narasaraopet government hospital. On April 6, the doctors referred him to Guntur Fever Hospital for treatment suspecting that he had developed Covid-19 symptoms. He was admitted to Fever Hospital on April 9 and later died. He was declared coronavirus positive on April 10.

Phone tracing and search

As part of the inquiry, the police collected call data of mobile phones of several Tablighi Jamaat attendees and their contacts. They also tracked the location of mobile phones of the Markaz attendee and the cable operator to establish their presence at the tea stall at the bus stand centre in Narasaraopet at the same time.

The police gathered information about the duo after showing the photos of the Delhi returnee and the cable operator to a worker at the stall to ascertain the fact that he served tea to them or not. The worker at the tea stall recognised the duo to whom he had served tea. Based on the information provided by the worker, the police visited NRI hospital where the Delhi returnee is undergoing treatment. When questioned he agreed to the fact that he visited Narasaraopet on March 20.

As the Jamaati tested negative after treatment, he was discharged from hospital on Thursday.

Deceased cable operator infects over 50 people

The deceased cable operator who had contracted the infection from the 54-year-old Tablighi ultimately became a super-spreader of the virus infecting more than 50 people in his hometown, Guntur. Initially, five family members of the cable operator and a home guard who is his close friend contracted coronavirus. His family members, in turn, spread the virus to another 34 persons, while the home guard who tested positive for the pathogen, infected 18 persons, including five doctors, as per the NIE report.

Role of Tablighi Jamaat in spreading the Wuhan Coronavirus

The Tablighi Jamaat fiasco, which took place in the second week of March 2020. was undoubtedly the biggest setback to India’s fight against the Wuhan Coronavirus. The mass gathering at the Markaz Nizamuddin in Delhi, and the subsequent transport of the virus through carriers across the length and breadth of India has jeopardised greatly the safety and health of this country.

Its pretty obvious that those Indian students airlifted in a casual way from China in the wake of the virus can't bring a shred of it or those thousands of expats returning in Feb and March but let's call it a Muslim conspiracy. Btw how many tableeghis came from overseas during march and Feb?

Now If you think that some article can do damage control subsequent to allegations leveled against the entire sikh community then you are wrong. Anything non Hindu will be made a scapegoat. My only fear is the repeat of 1984 across India.

Sikh leaders were clueless to what was coming their way. Jinnah tried to reason but they were high on some secular facade. Had they listened to jinnah and went for their separate state like Muslims , their honor and land would still be intact and no east punjabis have to move overseas enmassed after those roits .

ALL those Indian students were put in a quarantine facility on arrival.

There is No "damage" to "control".

Non of those Sikh pilgrims have tried to run away or went into hiding.
Tried to beat up health workers
Tried to spit on health workers and policemen
Switched off their mobile phones
None pelted stones on Policemen
Make unreasonable demands like biryani and non veg
Undressed in front of health workers
Took a dump in front of nurses

Notice the difference ?

lol.

If no tableeghi came from abroad then how come they contracted the virus in the fist place? And don't give me this quarantine bs, everyone knows the extent and class of Indian med facilities. Now did you folks also quarantined those thousands of idians returning from overseas in Feb and march?

What's wrong with a patient demanding the food of his choice? Hindus don't eat meat that's their problem but don't impose your secularism on others.

1. India arrested 619 foreigners who attended tableeghi for violating visa rules.
2. Modi govt. made outstanding arrangements to handle CoVid.
3. ALL arriving into India were screed for CoVid since February. They were asked to be home quarantined and information passed to the local and state administration to keep an eye on them.

It is Hospital food, not a restaurant.
