Festive fights: 5,000 people hospitalized from brawls during Tet holiday

Fights during the latest Lunar New Year holiday have sent more than 5,000 people to hospital across Vietnam, according to the Ministry of Health.

While the total number of fatalities has not been revealed, the ministry said on a certain peak day, there were 11 deaths out of 900 people hospitalized for injuries from fighting.
From February 15-22, more than 1,500 people were admitted to hospital for food poisoning. Five of them have died.

Hospitals nationwide have also admitted nearly 195,000 patients, of which 35,000 caused by traffic accidents.
The government granted state employees nine days off for the Tet Lunar New Year holiday, which ends Monday.

According to the National Traffic Safety Committee, traffic accidents killed 246 people and injuring 415 others from February 15-22, the first seven days of the break.
An overwhelming majority of them were caused by motorcyclists who breached traffic rules, such as driving under the influence of alcohol, not wearing safety helmets or piling too many people onto one motorcycle, the agency said.

Doctor Nguyen Tien Quyet of Hanoi’s Viet Duc Hospital said the hospital has admitted fewer traffic accident victims than last year.
“However, many people were more seriously injured as more accidents happened on highways,” he said.

Chinese celebrate Chinese new year for peace and prosperity, spending time with family. Vietnamese duke it out. Is this normal behaviour of Vietnamese when they celebrate Chinese new year?

:o:

There are always some fookers who drink too much and ruin it for everyone.
But you can't blame it on drinking alone. Chinese drink a lot too during festive times but never 5,000 brawls or 35,000 traffic fatalities in a week's span

I always try to avoid drinking with people in the countryside coz when they drunk, they mostly lose their control

when you go to public restaurant, pls dont look at young people when they make noisy by trunking. you could been considered that you "look down " at them. It is big trouble.

lol

just buy them more beer, they'll be happy.

Once something that can get people drunk is involved, expect brawls. Specially in holiday events.

Man, i remember being in Philippines for a vacation during fiesta or Holy Week.

That's when the beautiful Pinays are out and go to the karaoke bars. ;)

No violence, no fighting , just fun, singing...he he he

I am not sure about what really happen. The statistics would be from hospitals.
Daily, there're many cases of fighting each other, during Tet holidays it would be higher with support of liquor and extra time.

@J Lo : China is free of fighting case ?

The irony there is during the Holy Week though.

As for singing, whatever you do, do not sing Frank Sinatra's "My Way" in any bar.
