FBI raids Allure Medical Spa in Shelby Township for alleged fraudulent COVID-19 treatments

The FBI raided Allure Medical Spa in Shelby Township on Thursday as part of an investigation into allegations that it provided fraudulent treatments for COVID-19

The clinic has been offering high dose, intravenous injections of vitamin C as treatment against the virus, according to a recent magazine article.

FBI spokeswoman Mara Schneider said the investigation also includes allegations that the clinic "did not observe proper protocols to protect patients and staff from the virus."

"If any patients or staff have any concerns about their health or exposure to COVID-19, we urge them to consult a trusted health care provider immediately," she said in a statement.

Investigators arrived just before 8 a.m. at the location near 26 Mile and Van Dyke, Schneider said. She said the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is part of the task force, and upwards of a dozen agents and special staff were on scene.

Investigators were still on site at 2:45 p.m., but Schneider said they planned to wrap up Thursday.

A woman who answered the phone at the Allure Medical location said she did not have anyone available to talk with a Free Press reporter. Messages were left at the location and via email.

Schneider said agents are wearing Tyvek suits for their safety, dressing as if there is COVID-19 in the location. She said tents for dressing were on scene.

Schneider said there at least two other businesses in the building, which is in the 8100 block of 26 Mile. Those businesses, which includes a medical office that she said is unrelated to Allure Medical, are open.

Schneider said no one is in custody, and no criminal charges have been filed.

According to the Allure Medical website, the location offers varicose vein treatment, hormone replacement therapy, dermatology, stem cell therapy, cosmetics and weight loss services.

According to SRQ Magazine, Allure Medical was offering high-dose intravenous vitamin C therapy to front-line employees who are at risk of contracting the virus and to existing COVID-19 patients. Front-line workers are identified as those who include hospital staff, police and first responders, and grocery store employees.

The magazine quotes Allure Medical's founder, Dr. Charles Mok, as saying “We are using high-dose IV vitamin C to help support people's immune systems and to help those with the virus recover quicker. We want to provide this treatment to those who need it, regardless of their ability to pay."

The magazine states that Allure Medical won't treat sick people at the same time as those who are healthy.

Schneider said she could not confirm whether the vitamin C treatment was the alleged fraudulent treatment for the virus.

As of Thursday, there were more than 35,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Michigan and nearly 3,000 deaths, with metro Detroit hardest hit by the global pandemic.

Allure Medical has eight locations in Michigan, as well as offices in Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina and South Carolina, according to its website. Schneider said investigators were only at the Shelby Township location.

A hospital has reportedly turned to vitamin C as a treatment for the coronavirus, after reports emerged from China that doses well in excess of daily Dietary Reference Values (DRV) showed promise.
According to The New York Post, medical teams at the Northwell Health facilities immediately gave affected patients 1,500 milligrams (mg) of vitamin C intravenously (IV). The same amount was then re-administered three or four times a day.
Each dose represents over 16 times the recommended allowance the European Food and Safety Authority (EFSA) permits for vitamin C, which is 90mg for adult men and 80mg for adult women.
Dr Andrew Weber, a critical-care specialist affiliated to Northwell Health told the newspaper, “The vitamin C is administered in addition to such medicines as the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine, the antibiotic azithromycin, various biologics and blood thinners.
“The patients who received vitamin C did significantly better than those who did not get vitamin C,” he says. “It helps a tremendous amount, but it is not highlighted because it’s not a sexy drug.”
The revelations come as a recent study found vitamin C could shorten the length of stay in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Finnish and Australian researchers carried out a review that found 12 trials with 1766 patients taking vitamin C reduced the length of ICU stay on average by 7.8%.
In six trials, orally administered vitamin C in doses of 1–3 grams per day (g/day) (weighted mean 2.0 g/day) reduced the length of ICU stay by 8.6%.
In three trials in which patients needed mechanical ventilation for over 24 hours, vitamin C shortened the duration of mechanical ventilation by 18.2%.
Drop in Vitamin C levels

The team pointed out that vitamin C levels can drop in patients with acute respiratory infections, giving cause to top up levels, irrespective of the vitamin’s influence – an observation also noted by Dr Weber.
“Vitamin C levels in coronavirus patients drop dramatically when they suffer sepsis, an inflammatory response that occurs when their bodies overreact to the infection,” he said. “It makes all the sense in the world to try and maintain this level of vitamin C.”
At least three clinical trials have started in China studying the effects of high-dose IV vitamin C for the treatment of COVID-19 with one beginning as recently as 14 February.
In addition, the Shanghai Medical Association released the first and only official government guideline on March 1 for the treatment of COVID-19 where high-dose IV vitamin C (100 -200 mg/kg per day) was endorsed by experts.
Its publication may have played a part in an explosion of vitamin C supplement sales in the country, where Chinese e-commerce giant, JD reported a five-fold increase in consumer purchases.
Sales of health products including vitamin C effervescent tablets, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) brand Banlangen, and Xiao Chaihu (herbal formula) saw big increases.
JD said the virus outbreak was the cause of the surge consumption, and its higher online sales was attributed to consumers preferring to order delivery online instead of going to supermarket to purchase products.
Unlikely to cure COVID-19

However, in a separate article, Peter McCaffery, professor of biochemistry at the University of Aberdeen questioned the use of high-dose vitamin C in the treatment of COVID-19.
Writing in The Conversation, the professor said that while vitamin C does have some small effect on the common cold, it’s unlikely that taking large amounts of vitamin C supplements will cure a COVID-19 infection – or have a large effect at all.
Referring to the clinical trials that used high doses of vitamin C to treat COVID-19, he said that even if IV vitamin C worked to shorten or cure COVID-19, it would likely only be a stop-gap before therapies directed at the virus, such as vaccinations, took over.
“The most effective way to avoid the virus still remains washing hands, not touching the eyes, nose or mouth, and keeping your distance from anyone exhibiting symptoms,” he added.

Vitamin C does not kill viruses. Nothing about Vitamin C kills virus, Vitamin C breaks down in the body as Hydrogen Peroxide, food grade Hydrogen Peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide you buy in the store is toxic, even more toxic than toxic rubbing alcohol. Vitamin C breaks down into food grade Hydrogen peroxide, which is not toxic in low amounts.

This is the first known attack on the medical community by those who spread the virus around the globe (Washington criminals).

These criminals know what kills viruses and want the Pharmaceutical and Vaccine industry to make billions in profits. Vitamin C, you can't patent this treatment. Very low cost, very low GDP boost. $$$ > Amerikans

If hospitals treat patients with 20 grams of Vitamin C, it would be a tragedy for the vaccine industry.

I wonder if they are going to be going after zinc too. If you are an Amerikcan, stay away from Vitamin C, and get your shots. They are safe. So safe that the WHO does not want them tested on Africans.
