Export bids for JF-17 Thunder Multirole Lightweight Fighter Aircraft

Azerbaijan is very interested, first there was rumor of a blk-2.5 that is a Blk-2 with AESA radar but then things slowed down and likely they are waiting for the Blk-3 variant being available for export.

JF-17 uses Russian engine. Russian won't allow JF-17 to be exported to Azerbaijan which is at odds with Armenia which is backed by Russia.

Pakistan might be a special case as a favor to China
Russians never sell engines to India unless Indian air force operates the Russian made aircraft
Well 100 plus aircraft operational and more to follow is not a small number. At the end of the day....money is money

JF-17 Thunder exports are nothing to do with Russia.

Pakistan does not need or care about Russians as far as JF-17 Thunders exports are concerned.

Get it in your head otherwise a Pakistani Army Chief wouldn't be leading the Islamic Military Alliance against Iran or have thousands of troops deployed in Middle Eastern nations hostile to Russia.

without an engine planes do not fly

Honestly, if Russia really wants to play loggerheads, just swap out the Klimov engine for the latest WS-13 variant. The only reason Russia is even still supplying engines to the JF-17 is more of a political reason (i.e. assisting Klimov and sending a message to India) rather than a technical reason. Besides, the WS-13 is already powering all FC-31 prototypes so it can definitely be fitted on the JF-17 without performance compromises (except maybe some on reliability because the RD-93 is a very mature engine).

He means that if Russia considers Armenia a very friendly country and Azerbaijan a very hostile country, it has the right to prevent shipments of RD-93 engines for these JF-17s. Luckily, there are alternatives such as the WS-13 but I don't even think it will come to that because the only thing Russia is worried about is money these days.

Not to countries that are enemies of Russia. Russia won't sell to Ukraine for example.

We can use indirect method of purchasing. Russia to China and China to Pakistan.
China is not the only option and Russia will never do something like this(ban sales of engines) with china.

Currently people focus on markets and China is the biggest or one of the biggest market.

This would be extremely obvious because no Chinese aircraft has any uses for a RD-93 engine. If Russia does not want to sell the engine (which I highly highly doubt this is the case), they will not sell it in any way. Rest assured if Azerbaijan acquires the JF-17, the Russians will be more than happy to supply the RD-93s.

Wouldn't that take too long given the war is happening right now, as they'd have to go through all the contractual, financials etc., as well as the actual training, unless you're referring to temporarily leasing some of Pakistan's or even PAF pitching in?
Conflicts pave way for future weapon acquisitions.

Chinese can come up with a solution but first Azerbaijan has to show interest and start negotiations.

My friend Im very old in this regard .JF17 was always designed as alternate to F7/A5/Mirages of PAF as well as other nations .There is a reason cash strapped Pakistan went for this project and Chinese company saw this huge potential .Rest is all talk no evidence to it .JF17 was intended for PLAAF but never got through the trail stage .So PAF was left alone .
Here I would like to add something. You are right thunder was always designed as an alternate to F7, A5, Mirrages but the idea of alternate was to replace the roles of these fighters within PAF with a single fighter which provide modern capabilities for the roles performed by these aircrafts (i.e. strike, interception, CAS, naval air support etc) within Pakistan but at an affordable price.

THe aircraft is PAF requirement centric.

PLAAF was initially interested in the aircraft as they had the same requirement in 90s but with the change in China's foreign and defense policies and global ambitions, short legged aircraft were no more suited to them. They require the aircrafts not for area denial and air defense role but for power projection therefore, they require aircrafts having longer range, bigger fire punch and speed to reach long distance in short time.

Rest of the countries might get orders but you need to understand these are strategic deals and thunder is part of chinese block. As of today China's defense relations with other countries are still at very beginning stage. People are looking at outcome of trade war. As soon as China decisively wins the trade war, there will be more orders, but on the other hand if China fails then expect no more further orders.
