The JF-17 Thunder performed flight displays over the Dubai airport during the air show. Members of the Azerbaijani delegation also watched the flights.

Referring to negotiations held with Azerbaijan, company officials said that the discussions have not entered the phase of signing a contract yet. Instead of searching for shattered information on dozens of thread, let's make a central.

VIABILITY OF JF-17: Five countries in the Middle East are evaluating the JF-17 as an affordable replacement fighter at the Dubai air show, the air chief said at a press briefing hosted by PAF and China Aviation Technology Import-Export Corporation (CATIC) on the sidelines of the Dubai Air Show.

The five countries could send pilots to Pakistan to evaluate the JF-17 single-engine fighter, he said.

The CATIC is a government-owned company responsible for China’s aerospace defence exports.

It has long been known that the Chinese armed forces have been following the JF-17 programme closely, but most industry observers have shared the view that it prefers to focus on replacing older aircraft with J-10A, J-10B and Shenyang J-11.

The PAF chief said JF-17 was two to three times cheaper than its rivals on a flyaway basis, making it economical to run.

Air Commodore Khalid Mahmood, deputy chief project director (operations) for the JF-17 programme, said there was a potential market of 4,000-5,000 aircraft as air forces were looking to replace Mikoyan Mig-21s, Mig-23s, Mig-29s and Northrop F-5s.

“There is no plane that gives this much capability at this cost,” Air Commodore Mahmood said. The aircraft carried out 10,000 sorties for PAF, he said. “We have two active squadrons of 16-18 aircraft each. The third squadron will be activated in coming months.”—PPI

Let's hope that PAF keeps it's high level of professionalism for pilots and ground crew alike and not get carried away in making more sales for the JF-17.

i have breaking news but still needs confirmation. My source at the show tells that Arabs are stunned by JFTs performance and many inquiries are being made. Even more breaking is that Qatar has placed an Oder for 20 JFTs!

The first order is from Qatar to raise a Squadron!

exporting jft will increase the jft budget and hence we can spend more on new blocks and get a more better block

though i think we wont get a serious buyer before 2014-15.
at present these are only interests

nabil_05 : is this news confirmed ? waiting for your answer
Qatar has placed an Oder for 20 JFTs!

Buying of fighter a/c requires a lot of input from various angles:
1. Performance parameters dovetailing with ones particular requirment
2. Pricing direct and any offsets.
3. Operating costs over the life of the equipment including induction costs like training etc.
4. Spares support
5. Investment in the project by the manufacturing country -- the likelyhood of upgrades etc.
6. Capability to absorb the current weapons and those in the in the near future.
7. Relations with the mfg. country.
8. Proven Performance if availble, in combat, -- that is why these mfg's., love wars.
etc.

This requires a lot of time and evaluation. I do not see things happening before the next two years.

this ''least cost slogan'' is a sales pitch and i think the minister instead of concentrating on the words ''effective, capable'' stressed more on the word ''cheap'' or atleast was potrayed by the press like this

-- this price doesnt include weapons, training, spareparts and includes god knows what relatively downgraded avionics package so as to get some profit margin from it aswell in that meagre 25mil price tag

-- i doubt that the 'good' export variants would be under 25mil , considering the blk2 would roughly cost the paf in this range on a no profit/no loss basis
