Eurofighter was a good offer for India's MMRCA: Germany - Brahmand.com

Germany has maintained that Eurofighter, which was edged out in the IAF tender for 126 combat aircraft, was a good offer but it respected India's decision to go for the French-made Rafale.

Germany is one of the four partners in the consortium manufacturing the Eurofighter fighter jets along with Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom.

"We have the feeling that the European industry has quite a good offer. But it is up to the Indian Government....if the Indian government has any request I am sure the consortium producing Eurofighter is ready to answer all questions," German Ambassador to India Micheal Steiner told reporters here on Wednesday.

Asked if there was any ray of hope for the Eurofighter in the Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) contract, he said, "I think it's not up for me. I think what we have to be really clear saying respect for the Indian decision, readiness if there is any request from the India side and conviction that we have a good offer that is it."

On whether Germany was disappointed over losing out in the contract, Steiner said, "Neither this nor that."

Eurofighter and French Rafale were competing in the 126 combat aircraft tender but the latter was found to be cheaper and was offered the deal earlier this year.

It's really funny news. The guy is clearly saying he respect Indian decision and deal is closed the report seem NOT to let go

I personally love the EFT - but if it does not suit Indian requirements then we should not buy it, which is not saying that it's a bad plane - it's one of the best in the world but just not suited for the role which the MRCA required.

I'm sure it was a good offer, the only problem for EADS is that the Dassault offer was better!!

+Fair play to the guy though for sayiung he respected the descion, a much more mature attitude then certain others . Also speaks volumes about how proffesional and credible the MMRCA selection was carried out.

yes his response is clearly mature than British media's like "The Daily mail "

Germany havent lost anything.... They have their share in rafale.... Germany has contribution in typhoon and rafale both....

With no doubt, Rafale is best suited for India Air-fore requirements, but again i would say Euro-fighter (my favorite in MRCA) was not a bad choice either.
Sarkozy was a shrewd politician that's why he managed to bag the order, i am not sure about hollande francois ?

Yes, the word "WAS" says it all :D

+ Many hearts will break when India will finally sign the deal with France, it will be like A-Jo marrying Brad Pitt or Aish marrying Abhishek & other men crying

I think Eurofighter was the best choice for IAF,if it was a finished product.EF will take atleast 6 years to get ground attack capability.so,just like F-35,it is a good product, but not a finished one..thats why I'd say,Rafale is better.

It's not only the economics of the deal. Check out the evaluation report....

NWA phase I is the first 2008 evaluation with real flight trials. The results show a sharp advantage for the Rafale especially for Escort, Strike and Recce missions. The Rafale is also the only aircraft that was able to engage multiple ground targets simultaneously in one pass.

The only mission where the Eurofighter almost catches up with the Rafale is Air Policing. The Gripen is definitively not in the same league as far as Air to Air missions are concerned.

See the Swiss Air Force appreciations in the table below. Their final recommendation in all missions is the Rafale with the Eurofighter as a possible alternative.

NWA phase II is the second evaluation conduced in 2009 based on technical data of 2015 scheduled capabilities provided by the 3 manufacturers. Again the ranking remains the same with the Rafale clearly in front especially for Strike and Recce missions.

The Swiss Air Force appreciations when the upgrades are taken into account are in the table below. Their final recommendation in all missions is still the Rafale with the Eurofighter as a possible alternative.

Except for a slight edge in super cruise performance of the Eurofighter at Mach 1.4, Rafale beats the competition hand down!

For the Germans, grapes are sour!! :cheesy:

If it wouldn't meet the requirements, it would have been rejected after the trials and there should be no doubt that it is one of the best fighters available currently. The problems however was that it only offered the prospect to fullfil the requirements somewhere in future, not anytime soon and all that at higher costs. That made the decision to Rafale easy and the EF served us as a good reason to ask the French for more.

Germany has no contribution to Rafale at all, they would only benefit if the Dassault Aviation shares would go up, but that is the case if Dassault keeps on selling their civil aircrafts as well. EADS is not Germany, but German/French and actually France has even more influence in it, since the government holds shares of it as well, unlike German government.
