R-99A/B (P-99) It is based on the same platform as DRDO AEW&CS that is EMB-145SA - IAF designation for it is EMB-145I and is fitted Indian LRDE developed AESA radar array, datalinks, IFF, RWR, MWR.

Let us hope your wish comes true

But I have not heard of an AWACS guiding a missile after it has been launched
or doing mid course correction

It's actually degraded AWACS, it's AEWC .Do you know what last 'C' stands for ??

Yeah It is for control

But degraded or not is just a speculative matter

If it has GMTI and SAR capabilities as it is written in the news
it is a HUGE asset

AIr to Ground modes is always more difficult than Air to air modes

EMB 145 I is cheaper than Phalcon AWACS (off coarse less capable too).
True.
It is designed for a specific role with markedly lower capabilities (compared to IL based Phalcon) but again its cost (initial purchase and flying) is far lower and for several countries it will fulfill the requirements perfectly.
As @Chanakya's_Chant has mentioned above, the package will be comparable to SAAB Erieye (with Erickson radar) and at significantly lower cost, it will prove a pretty attractive package for several customers.

It's unfair to compare the two.

For an Indian solution to the EL/W-2090 PHALCON DRDO is working on the AWACS (India) project.

Yes I know it.

I was quoting anant_s, agreeing with him and also stated other facts.

So EMB 145 I is cheaper than SAAB Erieye?

Can it take over command and controls of the missiles launched by fighters and direct it to target ??

Probably not. That is a task for a full fledged AWACS platform (like the Phalcons), I think the DRDO birds will do primarily AEW roles, but DRDO is working of the full AWACS systems too.

So EMB 145 I is cheaper than SAAB Erieye?

It's not the plane, the radar that is cheaper.

So EMB 145 I is cheaper than SAAB Erieye?
Don't have data to substantiate (especially for EMB 145i system), but surely the Indo Brazilian system will be economical compared to Swedish and the cost could further reduce if production volume picks up.

So EMB 145 I is cheaper than SAAB Erieye?
It's hard to say with any degree of certainty but one would suspect so because the DRDO's radar system is bound to be cheaper than the Erieye and because the EMB-145 is in production today whilst the SAAB 2000 has been out of production for almost two decades now.

Air forces like the Greek and Mexican Air forces are using Embraer R-99 platforms instead of Saab 2000 to mount the Erieye radar - R-99 is the same EMB-145I platform which DRDO uses to mount its radar. So maybe considering this we can conclude that the EMB-145I's are cheaper than Saab Erieye's as the platforms are the same?

The keyword here is cost effectiveness and would be a win win situation for India and Brazil.

Well if we would focus on that keyword for sure, sadly we aren't and DRDO is already dreaming of bigger things, instead of pushing what they have.
Brazil won't buy it, since they already have the same platform with Saab's Erieye radar system, not to mention that Saab an Embraer are already planing the NG, based on an EMB 190 civil airliner and 360° coverage. So Embraer is surely happy that India makes nice PR for their EMB 145 platform, but that's it. Thanks to DRDO' we make everything alone habit, we missed the chance for a partnership, with them and Brazil and now DRDO wants to develop large sized AWACS, that are the opposite of cost-effective and that most countries can't afford.

@sancho The article claims it to have a 360 degrees coverage - shouldn't it be 300 degrees only?

It's even only 240°, that statement of the DRDO official is just silly PR to make it something special (better than 1000 ground radars

And further it says it can track multiple targets simultaneously as far as 350 kilometers away - so can we judge its instrumental range to be 350+

Depends on what target size and in what situation (hi or low altitude...)

That depends on the seeker on the missile

But this technique of SU 30 MKI guiding Mig 21 has been perfected

So an AWACS can only do it much better

The MKIs guided the Mig 21 fighters, not their missiles. The advantages is, that an aircraft with larger radar detection capability, shares it's radar data with fighters that have inferior (or turned off) radars, but are harder to detect.

Joint development through JV's is hard as the foreign firms seek the controlling stake of at least 51% which of course isn't acceptable by the GoI - The Saab-DRDO JV to jointly develope the Tejas Mark II was scrapped because Saab was hell bent on a 51% controlling stake later rejected by the GoI. Even in other successful JV's like BrahMos Aerospace - India holds a 50.5% controlling share stake in the company and Russia holds the other 49.5% .
