The PTI leadership has reacted strongly to the Islamabad district and sessions court's approval of a police request for physical remand of party member Shahbaz Gill for 48 hours in a sedition case filed against him.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan condemned the sessions court's decision, saying that he is concerned about Gill being sent into police custody once more.

"Gill is in a fragile state of mental and physical health because of the torture inflicted upon him when he was abducted and taken to an undisclosed location," Imran wrote on Twitter.

He said that Gill's remand is a "part of the conspiracy to target me and PTI by forcibly getting false statements against us similar to what they have been doing against social media activists".

The PTI chairman vowed to take legal and political action to counter the "extra-constitutional and extra-legal actions being devised against us".

'Utter destruction of human rights in Pakistan' — Fawad Chaudhry

Meanwhile, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry also criticised the order and said that "judges sending political workers in remand for torture while knowing everything are criminals".

Fawad said that there is no parallel to the way human rights are being "utterly destroyed" in Pakistan. He said that Gill is being sent into police custody for "torture" instead of interrogation.

'Laws should be equal for everyone' — Faisal Javed

Senator Faisal Javed Khan said that the authorities may take action against Gill as he "made a huge mistake".

He, however, said that the laws "should be equal for everyone".

"We condemn the treatment meted out at Gill and this House should also condemn it," Javed said in a speech in Senate.

'Spirits still high despite worst torture': Asad Umar

In a tweet, PTI Secretary General Asad Umar said that the reason behind the insistence on the physical remand of Gill is "more torture" as the police seized his phone at the time of his arrest.

" met Shahbaz Gill in Adiala, [his] spirits are high. Despite the worst torture meted out at him in Islamabad, [Gill] refused to make a false statement against Imran Khan," Umar wrote.

Umar, in a press conference, said that the party has provided evidence of alleged torture to Gill to the court.

"They [coalition government] forcefully want to get a statement by inflicting torture on the Gill and we want to bring it in the public record," claimed Umar. He demanded that the party members should know where Gill has been kept and be assured that he is not being tortured.

The former minister maintained the law has been violated by maltreating their party member. "The government leaders should be investigated and questioned too," he demanded.

"The police were provided Gill's physical remand so they could get a statement from him. They are abusing him," Umar reiterated.

'Regime change conspirators using Gill against Imran' — Shireen Mazari

In a Twitter post, PTI leader Shireen Mazari said: "The regime change conspirators are getting desperate to try and get something against Imran Khan, and now using Shahbaz Gill by torturing him to force false statements."

She said Gill has so far resisted despite "extreme torture", first when he was "abducted to an unknown location", and later at a CIA cell.

She further stated that remand into police custody after grant of judicial remand is a "rare" occurrence.

"Pakistan's descent into fascism is happening at a furious pace but we will resist it to the full," she added.

The development comes after federal govt sends Rangers and FC to Adiala prison

Prison officials at Adiala jail Wednesday evening refused – for over four hours — to hand over Shahbaz Gill to an Islamabad police party that arrived at the prison to secure custody of the PTI leader, who was earlier remanded into police custody by the court.

The refusal led to a standoff that ended only when Punjab officials relented in view of the federal government’s decision to send Rangers and Frontier Constabulary (FC) to Adiala jail to ensure compliance with court orders, SAMAA TV reported.

The resistance from Punjab officials — under the Pervaiz Elahi government — came shortly after Imran Khan and other party leaders expressed fears that Islamabad police will extract from Gill a ‘false statement’ against Imran Khan during the interrogation.

Imran Khan also ordered the Punjab government to somehow move Gill to a hospital to evade his transfer to Islamabad authorities, even if it meant flouting court orders.

SAMAA TV reported that when a party from Islamabad police – led by DSP Khalid Awan, Kohisar Police Station SHO Arshad Hussain and Investigation Officer Talat — arrived at Adiala jail, the prison officials said that they were moving Gill to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Rawalpindi.

Islamabad police officials, however, insisted on securing his custody as ordered by the court.

As the argument continued more police personnel from both Punjab police and Islamabad police arrived at the jail, creating a standoff, which continues even after four hours.

Two busloads of Punjab police personnel arrived at the Adiala jail while senior officials from Islamabad police and Punjab police also poured in.

There were so many vehicles outside the prison gate the entry was blocked, the TV reported.

ATS and Punjab police personnel have been deployed at the gate.

Officials also called in ambulances from Rescue 1122, which is under the Punjab government, and PIMS Hospital, which is under Islamabad authorities.

Punjab officials have also deployed a police contingent at DHQ Rawalpindi where Gill is to be likely moved, reported Adil Tanoli.

After the deadlock could not break for four hours, the federal government decided to call in Rangers and FC at around 9pm.

Islamabad Capital Police, in a statement posted to Twitter, said that it had handed over the court ruling to the jail authorities.

Islamabad Police has completed all legal requirements and will implement the orders of the court and hope for amicable cooperation, the statement said.

Shahbaz Gill faces sedition charges and was detained on August 9, a day after he urged personnel of the armed forces to disobey their commanders. Gill made the remarks in a phone-in conversation over a private-run TV channel.

He was sent to Adiala jail only two days after being arrested as a lower court turned down the police request to extend his physical remand.

After the police petitioned the Islamabad High Court, the Islamabad District and Sessions Court on Wednesday granted police 48 hours to interrogate Gill to complete their investigation.

Police say they want to recover the mobile phone and other devices being used by Gill.

This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.

No point handover over to Islamabad Police. All PMLN want to make videos of confessions and launch on media

. . . . .
Probably giving him intoxicants to make him give a anti imran statement.

They sodomized him and electrocuted his genitals while throwing cold water on him anytime he tries to sleep in a AC room.

Bajwa using his CIA handler’s tactics to the fullest to get some sort of anti Imran statement.

If they don’t get one, they’re gonna kill SG on some falsified treachery charge.
