Diplomats praise the self sacrifice of PAA pilots

The second post said they flew the helo in such a way they would die but their occupants would have a higher chance of survival.

I'm asking for clarification not questioning their heroism.
How can it be possible ? When heli nose dives or crashing it means pilot lost his control over the aircraft . So how can he point heli nose down that too while crashing so fast to the ground. So I go with first post .

They survived and later tried to help others and attained martyrdom

Considering the fact that it hit a building and that certain diplomats did end up losing their lives..the plausible separation of "Myths from Reality" is that the pilots realized that the aircraft was going so the "nosedive" might have been to bring the helo as close to the ground as quickly as possible to ensure minimum loss of life. There was no jumping in and out as some needless bad taste(but expected from certain nationalities) sarcasm indicates. The crew knew the aircraft was going down, it is UNLIKELY that they could have ensured their survival.. all they could do was bring the aircraft to a less disastrous situation by bring it to a lower altitude to at least avoid the momentum of gravity that might have been added to the alternative situation that was developing.

So the nose dive is what they resorted to in trying to bring the aircraft to a lower altitude to try and manage a landing, which may not have been a successful attempt if measuring as a whole as the impact put the aircraft into a ticking bomb mode.
Now whether the pilots were still alive when rescuers got to them and were trying to help the passengers get out when the chopper blew up is best known to eyewitnesses or the passengers themselves.

What is important is that they still deserve a commendation for what seems to be a very difficult situation presented to them.

Why were so many diplomats being escorted together?
Should we always rely on the courage of the troops or will the government ever use its head?

Sad to see loss of such men !!

THATS UNLIKELY . Am not aware of what actually happened but I will say With helicopters going down to crash means it already lost its control . And how can you reduce gravity impact with nose dive ? It will increase the momentum .Unless pilot had control and unless engine worked Unless pilot can glide for few secs no way to reduce an impact . Which is literally a free fall .

SURE These men lost their life while on duty . High time that due respect is shown to them . But I don't think they could had done anything to lower the impact . As its free fall. Given the weight of Mi17 and weight of passengers no way any one can do anything like Nose Down etc . As its already doing that due to glitches .

As for as I know one picture of them flying in 130 . Wonder why c130 was not used to ferry them back. Never the less Mi17 are dual engine ? So nothing wrong if they used for ferrying diplomats.

Its an unfortunate accident. But my question is how all the three encountered glitches at the same time ?

May be wind sheer ? Or any sabotage or insider job ? Need see how case will be closed ...

Yesterday Pakistan faced one of the most tragic incidents of its history but it gave us three Heroes. Two Pilots and third Main Engineer who could have saved their own lives easily but they chose to save lives of the people in helicopter and in process died but managed to save lives of 7 people. So lets salute Major Al Tamash and Major Faisal and Subaidar Zakir. The ultimate heroes of Pakistan.

How so? I thought they would be requesting transfer for Pakistan is no country for envoys as suggested by saffron media?

you are a pig accustomed only to your pussy pilots jumping out on first sign of trouble
I protest. You have no right to insult pigs!

All diplomats were ferried to Gilgit from Islamabad on Airplane. Gilgit has an airport. This particular place is about 25km from Gilgit. They were flown in on 4 helicopters to Naltar.
The Heli which crashed, developed failure of tail rotar at approx. 50m height. Due to tail rotar failure, the heli start whirl and pilots tried their best to land it somehow. It crashed into one of school building. As per ACM Sohail Aman, who was on the ground, it is a miracle that even many of the occupants survived the crash.

Reasonable !!! If tail rotor failed then that's it ... No way to control as heli will be spinning out of control . Then why so many mid information that Pilot tried nose dive ? How will one can nose dive when helicopter Spinning out of control ? So your theory is quite reasonable .

And what about 2post about pilot survived and died while helping the survivors ? Why 3 Mi17 malfunctioned st the same time ? Over load or sabotage

One of diplomat, a South African was in the unfortunate heli. He has narrated all the incident. You can google it.

Control over copter lost just before landing: PAF - Pakistan - DAWN.COM

You nose dive to lower the altitude to a manageable level. Fly in a helicopter someday and you will understand.
However, the link shows a very different scenario to the speculations here.

Take this situation "“There was a major vibration in the air and then the helicopter took a vicious circle. It went up and then went down. In the next moment it just dropped,”

How in the world you can control the aircraft for nose dive ? That was my point . And unless you have control and engine works you can't slide with wing less machine . When you lost control , then its free fall . Either you Nose down or not. It won't make any difference .

On incident : It looks like Mi17 lost control while few ft of landing . No one can do anything .For ever trained one may be .And ppl stop coming up with some stories .

Don't be stupid.

In most helicopters like the Mi17, especially those that are twin engined and have big rotors, the loss of complete power from the engines allows the helicopter to 'glide' using the rotors to 'feather' and 'windmill' which can seriously reduce the impact with the ground. That is why a lot of times you hear that people survive helicopter crashes. We don't know the exact details, but what the PAF said it was an issue with the tail rotor, loss of which can lead to a uncontrolled spin of the chopper.......however if the pilot was able to pitch his rotor to pitch the chopper up or down, that indicates he had some sort of power from the engines....

How so? I thought they would be requesting transfer for Pakistan is no country for envoys as suggested by saffron media?

What i demand is an explanation why the SU30MKI computers don't like IAF pilots and eject them automatically?

Sir am not a helicopter pilot or been in one . All I know is that when an object free fall depending on it altitude impact force increase or decrease. And Nose Dive or Nose up what kind of impact will it make on gravitational pull? That's what my point. When rotor is running then its different story .
