Defense Budget Hiked to 2.3 Lakh Crore

What was your expectations?

I listened through the entire budget. Just hiking the defence budget won't do anything. Defence of a country is related to industrial development. Electronics, shipbuilding and manufacturing is what's needed to make India a defence powerhouse.

There was nothing in the budget for those three. Absolutely nothing. Our shipbuilding share in the world is 0.1%, electronics less than 3% . Yet, there were schemes after schemes for the poor, senior citizens, war memorials and things that are merely for showpiece. I was expecting heavy cutting in subsidies and more incentives for industries and investment in strategic sectors. But yes, yet another populist budget. Disappointed.

* 6 more textile clusters to be set up.

* Industrial Smart Cities to come up at 7 cities.

* Rs 200 crore set aside for 6 more textile clusters in Rae Bareily, Lucknow, Surat, Bhagalpur. Rs 50 crore set aside for Pashmina Production program in J&K.

* New and renewable energy deserves high priority; ultra modern power projects to be taken up in Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Ladakh with Rs 500 crore.

I can go on and on but doesn't matter as i will be wasting my time.

Waste of money! Spend that money on making peace with your neighbours or on development of minorities.

and about Muslims, well they are second majority religion now sharing 15-20% of total population.

Overall Budget is good but i was expecting 20% increase in Defence budget.

India is struggling with issues such as Infrastructure, Education, hygiene job creation and you want a 20% hike in Defence?

are you insane?

That's over 2% India's GDP。

Way to go。Make it 3 or 4 percent as soon as possible。

Highlights of Union Budget 2014

* Indian Custom Single Window Project to be taken up for facilitating trade.
* Clean energy cess increased from Rs 50/ tonne to Rs 100/tonne.

* Additional 5% excise tax to be levied on aerated drinks with added sugar (cold drinks). Tobacco products also to get costly as excise duty hiked to 72%

* Government announces reduction in excise duty for specified food package industry from 10% to 6%.

* Excise duty on footwear reduced from 12% to 6%

* Basic custom duty on LED panel below 19 inch made nil.

* Government announces measures to encourage manufacture of LCD/LED panels of TVs.

* Housing loan rebate to raised from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh.

* Net effect of direct tax proposals is revenue loss of Rs 22,200 crore.

* Government proposes to increase investment limit under Section 80C from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh.
