Compare performance of Indian-foreign weapon systems: DRDO

It's kind of funny to read that, when we know how much the weight difference between the T90 and the Arjun is and he probably will lose in most performance comparisons too, which is why he should focus more on development and delivery, rather than on barking around in front of the media.

Russian tank designs with 3-men crew and an auto-loader is smaller in size, Western tank designs with 4-men crew (4th guy is the loader) is bigger to fit four persons, hence heavier. Besides western tank designs (including Arjun) rely on heavier armour, a manual loading design itself is safer than auto-loaders, and won't malfunction also. Surprisingly, Arjun falls in the weight category of 4-men crew western tanks.

So what IA was thinking when they specifically asked for a 4-men crew tank with heavier arnour based on western design?

The only known problem with Arjun 2 tank is its size which cannot let it move easily on trains so let it be along front line with pakistan where u dont need to move much often.

How can size be an issue now when army asked for a bigger 4-men crew tank in the first place?

The usual myth about China and the comparison to India, with the usual blind believe that China did invest so heavily in indigenous developments because they wanted it, while the fact is, that China had no other option!
They have far less access to other techs and weapons and that's why they needed to develop things. If they had the chance to get foreign, maybe better stuff, they would prefer it too and NO they don't accept everything! If that would be true JF17 Block 2 and J10B would use the Chinese engines that were developed, but they are not and sticked with Russian engines, till the indigenous once are good enough!
And why are we picking up at missile technology? Because we have access to foreign techs, systems, partners...(Brahmos in various versions, Barak 8, Maitri SAM, CLGM...), advantages that China don't have and why they need to invest much more than we need!
Even with the huge investments, China is still largly dependent on Russia in core areas and we all know where most of their designs come from, but that again only shows that money alone can't counter the lack of know how and experience!
The most important point at Chinas defence investments is not the outcome they have today, since that is still behind of what Russia or the west can develop, but the huge amount of experience and know how they gather. Combined with their far more rational approach on developments and their excellent industrial capabilities, they will catch up fast and even will surpass most currently leading nations.
So if we want to learn something from them, then it's not that we need to spend more money, or just aim on indigenous developments only, but that we need a more realistic and simple approach in indigenous developments, use any chance to gain know how and experience (JV's co-developments, tech demo programs) and improve our industrial capabilities (offsets, ToT, inviting Indian privat players, making India to a manufacturing hub...)!

Does not matter what China was having option , anyway they did the Investment and result is in front of us....Regarding Engine ... There are only four country in this world who is manufacturing their engine and the country is USA, UK, FRANCE and RUSSIA... In any way they are not going to reveal this technology to any one...As you can see that India is also trying to make engine from a long time, even India is having very good relationship with RUSSIA and FRANCE, So nothing much to say in this regards.. ...They never share engine technology with IINDIA...Regarding Missile technology ...No matter who is our partner ...But the point is we have handsome missiles in our arsenal... I am sure in future it is going to Improve more and more.

Regarding CHINA's investment in RnD... I have mentioned earlier...China's tech is not comparable to west or Russia...But you have to accept that they are working towards the improvement.

And Very much agree with the bolded part what you have mentioned.

And what critical systems of arjun are actually made in house??
Majority are imported, the tracks were importedd, maybe now made under tot....the engine is imported.

The ecm is imported, the laser pods are imported.

There is nothing glorious about arjun,,,just like there is nothing glorious about tejas or dhruv.
They are assembled on imported parts.

And still the performance is not upto the mark,,,,it may be better than t-90s in some aspects but overall no comparison at all.

That is why they asked it on the first place. They knew making 4 man tank will make Arjun heavier and it would require changes in logistics etc. Now they have the excuse to not induct Arjun and ask for more t90s.

Even if it is 30% own, still it is a positive development.
