CNN Interview with Imran Khan: Assassination Attempt on the ex-Prime Minister by the Establishment and PDM

Some just look at Indians and decide to give up. Point is to not give up.

A US Department of State spokesman told a journalist that US have separate and important relationship with Pakistan.

Pakistani diaspora in USA is rich and well-settled. It has NOT realized its political capacity yet.

Most of us that work with Indians know that those the succeed work hard, sometimes at the expense of other aspects of their lives/culture to assimilate and move up the social hierarchy. Talent nurtured at a young age and focused can achieve remarkable things, but so can sheer power of will and numbers.

The Pakistani-American Community is realizing its deficits and now slowly shifting away from pushing kids towards being just doctors, lawyers, and engineers. Young Pakistani-Americans are rising to the challenge when they see the landscape. We also live all over the country and many generations in are finding our niche.

Agreed, never give up.

That is the rub. We now have 2nd gen Pakistani with educated professional parents and they are not encouraged to go into public arena. Whereas it seems the Indians have made a concerted effort to do that. Was going through the voting booklet for Washington state, and there were multiple indian origin candidates running for county judges to state senators.
There is a big sample in current congressional staffers is of Indian origin. These are the people who push the agenda, help craft bills and even provide insights for their congressional leaders.
Not to give up, but we are 25 years behind. Need to be more politically involved.
Big mistake, bro.

Pakistani Americans need to get in touch with each other and become politically active. There is strength in collaboration.

Pakistani diaspora is a well-settled bunch. Believe in yourself.

Your are correct that we are give or take 25 years behind. Psychologically, it seems with IK coming to power, the prospect of regular people getting politically involved seemed important, and the spillover effects into the diaspora have now gotten people to start trying in a big way.

The only difference now is that it has to be a concerted effort of diaspora groups to participate.

For Indians it was the 90’s boom of meritocracy back in India that made everyone ok with being open to new things and an entrepreneur of sorts.

For Pakistan, the election of IK was the Dues ex machina moment.

Here is something. People like me stepped out from there homes and gave votes to Imran Khan. WE turned him into a huge political force because WE believed in him.

Point is to DO SOMETHING.

That’s a red herring. They have some influence, but not as much as you think. US interests are deeper and strategic.

US policies are made by Americans of all kinds. The sooner people understand that, the better it is for them.

Politics/democracy is in illusion in the land where "corporations are people"...the real power lies with the oligarchy and monied interest. Pakistanis would be better off increasing their financial clout and be those that the politicians seek out for patronage.

CEO of a company has a lot more influence over what happens in the political sphere in US than any congressman, senator or even president can ever aspire to have...

Quaid never thought there would a species in future called the colonial sepoy Generals of the East India Company Pakistan that will be capable of doing just the opposite.

I hear Elon Musk booted much of the Indian staff from Twitter. ;)

Good observation.

Financially strong people can also be influential in many countries and particularly in free societies. There are Pakistani American billionnaires as well. Powerful resource in my view.

What IK did wrong in his tenure is he went full mullah mode and started making strange statements on women and too much focus on religion

If he had not done that, then how would he have appeased and gain trust of taliban? This was the idea of the same ISI.

All moves can be strategized. Afghan Taliban developed their own contacts with Americans eventually. Food for thought, dear.

It has nothing to do with that. His wife radicalized him and his character warped. His old self was perfect for statemanship.

What IK did wrong in his tenure is he went full mullah mode and started making strange statements on women and too much focus on religion. Easy bait for pro Indian lobbyists in the west who were constantly seeking a regime change and to bring their Sharifs and Zardaris back in power.

I really didn't understand this behavior, all his life he has been a complete and balanced individual. He should have kept the focus on his philanthropy and built up the goodwill. His sensationalist statements did not help his cause apart from getting a few more supporters from the jahil backwater towns in Pakistan who would turn their backs on him for a plate of biryani from TLP.

I think he received bad advice from his wife and whatever jahil backwater types that float around her.

He should remain single and focused and remain authentic to his character and not listen to advice from these medicore people around him with IQs of a chicken.
A lot was left to be desired of some of his advisors from what one of my acquaintances told me when asked to execute a well thought out project. They choose to go a different way, without a full understanding of the complexity of the issue.

This is why I hope he takes the time to review his staff and advisors and builds a more qualified and disciplined and shrewd team of knowledgeable policy wonks and PR people. Mounting a comeback is gonna be harder then the first go around.

We can take that discussion up in a more suitable thread. Here, whether IK can use some of your advice to make his case to the west that he would find supportive all depends on his mindset, and thus far there has been no indication that he might be inclined in that direction at all, even after the assassination attempt.
I hope he has a long discussion with Moeed Yusuf soon.
