China's new type 54D Destroyer with 64 cell Vertical Launch System

New Chinese Type 052D Guided Missile Destroyer has been spotted with new 64 cell Vertical Missile Launch Systems (VLS) for surface to air missiles.
We would expect that one cell could launch three missles and the VLS could also launch anti ship and land attack missiles. The advantages of the VLS are that there would be no need to have the two quad pack YJ62, more anti ship and land attack missiles could be launched instead of the current 8 anti ship missiles for the current type 52C Destroyer and no need to position the ship to the target as the missile would be launched vertically.
