China’s Breakthrough in Electromagnetic Missile Launch, Railgun

According to he website of China Aerospace Science & Industry Corporation (CASIC), Office No. 206 of CASIC’s Second Institute has given priority to the research in electromagnetic launch of missile and phalanx close-in air defense and made unspecified breakthroughs. No details have been given of the breakthroughs perhaps due to confidentiality.

The website says that the office is conducting vigorous research and development in that area because that technology is among the “five new generations” of technology for China. It regards the technology as a new-type advanced launching technology in terms of speed, range, firepower and response capabilities.

The office has set up a High Energy Electromagnetic Technology Young Creation Office of young researchers as the technology can significantly improve the capabilities and speed of missile launching and reduce the mass of the carrier of a missile and the operation and maintenance costs of the launching devices. It will be a revolution in military technology.

However, the website points out that further efforts are necessary to actually be able to apply the technology.

It is quite sensational.......if you can read Chinese, the whole paragraph does not mention anything about the actual progress on EMALS discovery, and the only point they pointed out is that China realise how important EMALS system were.

In term of actual development, I think the only actual development Chinese does is building a model and lay out all the necessarily hurdle to face on the program. Think about it, US started the EMALS project in mid 2000 (If I remember correctly start of production in 2006) and we just tested it on the carrier this April, you can guess what would be the progress status from a model on the table to actually working prototype......

I have read all that, it solidity my point which the Chinese EMALS and railgun technology is still on paper, none of the physical breakthrough were actually made, again, beside pointing out the problem facing ahead.
