China eyes military ties with Greece

China is willing to boost military cooperation with Greece on multiple levels, State Councilor and Defense Minister Liang Guanglie said Monday.

Liang made the remarks during a meeting with visiting Chief of Hellenic National Defense General Staff Ioannis Giagkos.

Liang said China-Greece relations have enjoyed stable development since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1972. He added that bilateral relations entered a new phase of development when the two counties established their comprehensive strategic partnership in 2006.

Liang hailed the two countries' frequent high-level visits, increased mutual trust and the achievements that both sides have made in areas such as economics, trade, shipping and tourism.

China attaches great importance to developing its relations with Greece and is willing to work with Greece to strengthen their cooperation, he said.

Liang also hailed frequent high-level visits between the militaries of both nations, as well as their cooperation in personnel training. He expressed willingness to boost interactions between the Chinese and Greek militaries in the future.

Giagkos said he hopes deepen relations between the two countries and strengthen cooperation between the militaries of both countries.

china might be able to get some american technology that greece has.

greece is a bankrupt nation.
now is the time to use them, and squeeze every bit of water out of the stone.

do they both have rich history and ancient civilization?

What exactly are we going to get? F-16 Block 52+? Sorry, we've got more advanced stuff than that.

I'm pretty sure each country has its own doctrines despite being part of NATO. China and Russia each have their own doctrines despite the fact that both countries are part of the SCO.

Greece's ridiculous spending on its military partly led to the bankrupt state they find themselves in now. China should advice them on economic policies.

Yes. However Greece had much larger Turkey to contend with.

SCO is not a military alliance like NATO, which has standardized procedures, equipment standards, training and tactics. The two is not remotely close.
