China eyes military ties with Greece

SCO is not a military alliance like NATO, which has standardized procedures, equipment standards, training and tactics. The two is not remotely close.

Then we can simply do that through Turkey. Why the need for Greece? Unless they have a different doctrine and tactics, I see no need.

Do you always have so much blind faith to put all your eggs in one basket? Not to mention Erdogan isn't the most friendly guy towards China, especially after the Uyghur riot in Xinjiang. Why does Canada trade with China when it already has United States?

Why not? Wasn't it Turkey and China that engaged in a recent air to air exercise? Wasn't it Turkey the first NATO country to purchase Chinese weaponry?

Turkey is militarily the closest NATO country to China. What has Greece done militarily to its relations with China?

Putting eggs in one good basket is better than putting them in ten crappy ones.

Do you even keep up with Turkish politics? The Turkish military is secular and disjointed from its civilian government. They are very much their own seperate institution within their country. The civilian government led by Erdogan is ran by Islamists with Pan-Turkic tendencies, thus they sympathize with Xinjiang seperatists (ETIM is based in Turkey). Lately, the civilian government is gaining more and more control over the military. Guess what happens when they have complete control?

Except your analogy is stupid and Turkey certainly isn't "good" basket. Why does China develop relationship with India after it has relationship with Pakistan? Hell, everybody should just stick with one country.

Turkey has many aspects of a military dictatorship that just has a civilian government on for show. It really is much like "an army that has a country". Dealing with military dictatorships is a real pain.

And what do you think will happen to their view towards China if we stop maintaining good relations? Mind you, they do have the Xinjiang region by the throat. They are like the Cuba when it comes to China. They may be small and unimportant, but you bet they can be a huge nuisance if they feel they are neglected.

Turkey, mind you, is also a NATO country, meaning that they can lend their bases to US forces anytime. Do you want that to happen?

No need to lend, we have bases in Turkey.

Closer ties with Greece will upset Turkey and vice versa. China is in a tough situation.

Spoken like someone completely oblivious to the world around them. Improving relationship with Greece does not mean relationship with Turkey will deteriorate. Politics is not a zero sum game. India has maintained a balance between United States and USSR for years, without having to devote itself completely to either camp. Why develop relationship with Israel when China has relationship with Arab states? According to you there would be no need.

Turkey has China by the throat? If you get anymore moronic, you can probably register yourself for mental health income assistance. The number of Han in Xinjiang is roughly equal to that of Uyghurs, and has been growing for decades. Uyghurs represent less than 1/100 of China's total population. ETIM is essentially storm in a tea cup, and only survived because of Turkish support. Having good relationship with Greece also sends the message to Turkey they cannot support Xinjiang seperatists without reprecussion, get it?

News flash, United States already have bases in Turkey. If you bothered to check reality once in a while, you'd know that.

I think China can buy some ports from Greece when it auctions off its national assets to pay off its debts.

I hope Greece survives this debt crisis.
