Decline of Buddhism in India - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

By the 4th to 5th century Buddhism was already in decline in northern India
[...]
During this period the Buddhist were persecuted by Rajputs
[...]
a vigorous Hindu revival of Vaishnavite Hinduism in the region led to a sharp decline of Buddhism

According to your brainwashing, Muslim invaders wiped out Buddhism, but didn't manage to do likewise to other, less prevalent, religions in India. The reality is that Buddhism had been mostly eradicated in India before Muslims ever came there.

You can continue to live in your Hindutva inspired Islamophobe world. Let us know when you are ready to face the real world.

You can continue to live in your Hindutva inspired Islamophobe world. Let us know when you are ready to face the real world.

Firstly, you were peddling BS about how Muslim invaders never targetted Jain. I gave you a rebuttal (which you ignored)

And now this ??!! Wow just wow ! Cherry picking are we?

Let me post the stuff that you missed from the same article

Decline of Buddhism in India - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mahmud of Ghazni is said to have been an iconoclast.[31] Hindu and Buddhist statues, shrines and temples were looted and destroyed, and many Buddhists had to take refuge in Tibet.[32]

[edit] Muhammad of Ghor

Muhammad attacked the North-Western regions of the Indian subcontinent many times. Gujarat later fell to Muhammad of Ghor's armies in 1197. Muhammad of Ghor's armies destroyed many Buddhist structures, including the great Buddhist university of Nalanda.[38]

In 1200 Muhammad Khilji, one of Qutb-ud-Din's generals destroyed monasteries fortified by the Sena armies, such as the one at Vikramshila. Many monuments of ancient Indian civilization were destroyed by the invading armies, including Buddhist sanctuaries near Benares. Buddhist monks who escaped the massacre fled to Nepal, Tibet and South India.
[39]
[edit] The Mongols
[40]

[edit] Timur (Tamarlane)

Timur was a 14th-century warlord of Turco-Mongol descent,[41][42][43][44] conqueror of much of Western and central Asia, and founder of the Timurid Empire.

Timur destroyed Buddhist establishments and raided areas in which Buddhism had flourishe
d.[45][46]
[edit] Mughals

Mughal rule also contributed to the decline of Buddhism. They are reported to have destroyed many Hindu temples and Buddhist shrines alike or converted many sacred Hindu places into Muslim shrines and mosques.[47] Mughal rulers like Aurangzeb not only destroyed Buddhist temples and monasteries but also destroyed Hindu temples and replaced them with Islamic mosques.[48]

Same story with Persia, Egypt. Everywhere. Overwrite their culture and destroyed their monuments

Buddhism was in decline in India because of Hinduism's attempt at assimilating it into Hinduism. An example of it is, Budhha was declared an Avatar of Vishnu, slowly it became a part of Hinduism in India. There were some kings who had discriminatory attitude toward Budhhist but there were many who patronized the same. Budhhists were never prosecuted by Hindu kings as some Pakistanis in their new-found awareness try to portray.

We are talking about eradication, not targetting. You guys are claiming that Muslims are responsible for the eradication of Buddhism from India. I showed otherwise.

Let me post the stuff that you missed from the same article

Yes, they destroyed buildings. We are talking about live practice of religion, not mostly unused artifacts.

I am saying that Buddhism was almost gone from India before Muslims arrived, so they can't be blamed for its absence in India. Some (mostly) unused monuments remained, but the live practise of the religion was all but gone.

How and why Buddhism declined is another matter.

Pakistanis are Enjoying there Day Ignoring the Fact that, Almost all the Major Country in asia re Involved in this Project Nalanda, "India,China,Japan and Singapore" . Whats the Use taking pride in Ancient Universities when the Govt cannot Repeat the History, Takshashila is more of a Dumpyard while we renovate Nalanda, There is noting to be jealous about it...

India has Given Billions In aid to Harvard University, but that doesnt make USA a Begging Country or a Country of Illiterates, double standards Apply only for India ....

"Practice of Religion" ?

Do you even know what you're saying? Buddhism is some weird radical ideology? These "isms" didn't exist back them

These are not Abrahamic religions ok? No notion of my god "better than" yours. No holy crusades, none.

Buddhism and Jainism are basically atheistic, there is no god. We don't believe in the creator/lord/allah/whatever

These were means to reform Hindu society which had become too superstitious and dogmatic. Slowly these atheistic/materialists principles were assimilated into the mainstream.

However this was undone by the later ultra-conservative Muslim and later British periods. That's how the land of Kamasutra became the land of the sexually repressed !

Please stop this nonsense!

It's extremely offensive, when your so called heroes destroyed countless Buddhist site and removed it from the subcontinent.

You named you ballistic missiles after them. If that's not bigoted, then what is?

Go read your crazy revisionist history !

One engraving on the Qutub Minar reads, "Shri Vishwakarma prasade rachita"
Read the footnote. It's from the reputed book

"World Heritage Monuments and Related Edifices in India". Pg.107. Google Books.

And before peddling revisionist Moin Ansari crap, can you disprove these images?

Surely the pious Muslim invaders won't do Idol worship right

Mughals were from Uzbekistan ! However later they intermixed with the Rajputs, hence got "Indianised"

So you are agreeing with Abir that Buddhism was 'absorbed' back into Hinduism. Whatever you want to call it...

Previously, you seemed to apportion the blame exclusively to Muslims for the decline of Buddhism in India.

Nobody's denying that some Muslim rulers persecuted other religions and destroyed monuments. This was the norm back then. Good, we agree.
